Gaddafi: "I won't surrender"

The Libyan leader said that he and his forces are “not like women” and will keep on fighting.

MUAMMAR GADDAFI WARNED yesterday that his loyalist tribes in his main strongholds were armed and preparing for battle.

His warning came hours after rebels extended their deadline for the surrender of the fugitive leader’s hometown.

The rebels had demanded that the town of Sirte be handed over on Saturday.

However, a spokesman for the rebels, Mohammed al-Rajali, said:

We want to save our fighters and not lose a single one in battles with Gaddafi’s forces. In the end we will get Sirte, even if we have to cut water and electricity.

They do say that their advance on Sirte is going well and that they are closing in on Gaddafi.

In a late night broadcast on Syrian-based Al-Rai TV, Gaddafi told them:

We won’t surrender again; we are not women. We will keep fighting.

He warned “the battle will be long and let Libya burn” and that “we will burn the ground under their feet”.

He added:

Get ready to fight the occupation … Get ready for a long war, imposed on us … Get ready for the guerilla war.

Gaddafi’s wife and three of his children have received asylum in Algeria.

The Algerian newspaper El Watan reported Gaddafi had also sought sanctuary there, but the president refused to take his phone calls.

Asked Thursday if Gaddafi could be given asylum, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said: “I don’t believe so.”

World leaders met yesterday at an international conference in Paris for talks with Libya’s rebel-led National Transitional Council.

They vowed to free up billions of dollars in frozen assets and offered to help Libya rebuild – while stressing that it is it the Libyan people themselves who must lead the way.

$15 billion dollars were unblocked.

Currently, Libya is suffering from water, gas and electricity shortages.

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the rebels “still have a huge hill to climb” but they are working with the international community.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon urged the Security Council to make a decision quickly on deploying a civilian mission to stabilise Libya.

For the NTC to be recognised as the government of Libya, the UN General Assembly’s Credentials Committee must accept its credentials.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel offered her country’s help to Libya in rebuilding hospitals, transport and a police force, mentioning their experience of a dictator in Germany and overcoming the past peacefully.

Other countries to offer help were Italy, Norway, and China.

I just cannot believe how blind the world is, Libya was a thriving debt free society, fuel 20 cent a litre on average, free electricity, free medical care, government paid 50% of your mortgage, literacy up to 85% , funds available for overseas education, banking system that allowed 0% interest loans, the list goes on, They wanted rid of ghaddafi because he was a threat to world financial stability or rather the Rothschild choking grip on the worlds banking system… He wanted a gold dinar to be introduced instead of he dollar when dealing with oil sales… Libya was vindicated from the Lockerbie disaster… Wake up FFS.. Our world is literally been taken over by greed.
And don’t start the ol’ conspiracy theory shite… Look around you and se the debt that we are all in

I doubt Libya under Ghaddafi is the utopia you make it out to be. Im not denying western society is right either, but if it was the case that Ghaddafi was a man of the people, then there would have been very little discontent in the first place.

Actually I must apologise, having researched Libya I found out that it actually has a very strong social welfare system and housing is heavily subsidized, One of the lowest rates of poverty in all of they region.

I agree. Btw, I spent some time and really read “the Green Book” written by Ghaddafi. I am not saying that I totally agree with him but I can only respect that he actually defends his ideals. It is very interesting – he predicted and explained in his book what happens now, he did this more than 20 years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Green_Book

Where did u get these figures from ? U poor lady . When u decide to defend Gaddafi u should have searched about this dictator life and u should have spoken to few Libyans . He has been killer dictator .
Libya has no infrastructure , no social welfare system , salaries are very low, no freedom of speech at all at all , no health system , no good education , no democracy , purely one man led country by Gaddafi . If u heard about any good aspects of Libya that mean he and his family enjoying it not Libyans. We couldn’t tolerate him any more , he has been there 42 yrs. Internationally , bad relation with the world , UK, USA, Europe , neighbours . Lockerbie crime , Berlin night club crime, lady police Fletcher murdering in London , supporting all terrorism movements in the world , destabilising many countries in Africa .All these in his CV .
I cannot finish as he has the longest worse history for a dictator . Gaddafi To the hellfire .

If I was him I wouldnt surrender either. He is eventually going to be killed anyway he may aswel continue the fight rather than go through the humiliation of a mock trial and public execution like Saddam. Not saying he is right just saying I dont blame him fighting on.

U do not wish to be him. He is criminal , cheater , thief , liar … Etc. We are going to catch him or he will be killed. This the faith of any dictator , killing his Owen people. As Libyans we decided enough is enough and we proud that we fought for our freedom .

Cannot understand the thumbs down – are there persons amongst the readership who do not respect equal rights and equality ? – unlike Ghaddafi’s attitude to women !
