Sky News reporters will be broadcasting using branded selfie sticks

Could it be bad news for cameramen and women?

SELFIE STICKS AREN’T going anywhere soon – and one major news organisation is even going to be using them for broadcasting interviews.

According to Mashable Australia, Sky News reporters in Australia will be using special branded selfie sticks to film interviews out in the field.

The channel manager of Sky News Live, Greg Byrnes, told them that some reporters are already using the sticks, which will mainly be used for breaking news reporting.

While the new selfie sticks will be branded, as you can see a Sky News reporter in the UK seemed to have created his own with the aid of masking tape:

The reporter, Joe Tidy, has been doing a series of selfie stick interviews for Sky News in the UK:

In Australia, the selfie stick technology is made by SmartGrip, and each one will cost about $1000AUS each, says The Australian.

While selfie sticks are often the subject of derision, their use by networks for breaking news could prove that they’re more than just one-trick tech ponies.

But it might not be good news for camera operators, who aren’t needed when selfie sticks are used by reporters.

If Sky couldn’t get any more annoying… now we’ll have poor quality wobbly interviews with people who don’t matter.
