Taoiseach Enda Kenny answers questions about the Vatican response to the Cloyne report at the Curragh, in Co Kildare today. Eamonn Farrell/Photocall Ireland

The Daily Fix: Saturday

In tonight’s Fix: The fall out from the Vatican’s response to the Cloyne report; why there could be good news for mortgage holders; and what’s happening down at the Electric Picnic?

EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you a round-up of all the day’s main news as well as the bits and pieces that you may have missed.

  • The Vatican has issued its rep0nse to the Cloyne report in to clerical sexual abuse. It denies claims that it interfered in efforts to report priests implicated in the inquiry’s findings and criticised the Taoiseach’s unprecedented attack on the Catholic Church. The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste have both responded.
  • There has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of people seeking help from a suicide crisis centre based in Dublin and Limerick.
  • In Libya, the interim authority, the National Transitional Council, hopes to move its HQ to the capital Tripoli next week. Such is  the desire to distant itself from the Gaddafi era, the country has already rebranded its football kit to pre-Gaddafi era colours.
  • Meanwhile new documents have revealed the relationship the Gaddafi regime had with the CIA in the US.
  • Wikileaks, having seen its relationship with the Guardian newspaper deteriorate further this week, has published its entire cache of US diplomatic cables, uploading over 251,000 files in unredacted form.
  • The UN has called for the imminent eviction of hundreds of Irish travellers from the Dale Farm campsite in Essex to be suspended. Residents at the camp plan to continue resisting eviction which became more likely following a High Court ruling in London earlier this week.
  • A Fianna Fáil councillor wants to know if Bertie Ahern’s infamous St Luke’s constituency office in north Dublin is available for use by the local party. Read what Cllr Mary Fitzpatrick has to say.
  • The European Central Bank (ECB) has demanded that Italy persevere with tough austerity measures that will see some €45 billion shaved from its budget over a number of years. The call comes amid a softening approach to austerity by the Italian government in recent days.
  • Elsewhere, analysts reckon that the ECB may cut interests rates this year, which could be good news for mortgage holders.
  • A popular television presenter is amongst 21 people who have died after a Chilean air force plane crashed in to the Pacific Ocean on Friday.
  • “You can see that European media is clearly more critical of their governments than in the US,” the co-creator of the political commentary show The Young Turks tells TheJournal.ie why major media organisations are being restricted from being as free as online outlets.
  • Dying with dignity is a right not afforded to all in Ireland under the current system, according to Sharon Foley of the Irish Hospice Foundation who has written for TheJournal.ie.
  • Were you one of the 300 or so brave souls to dive into the Liffey and swim for over 2 kilometres today? Check out the ones who were.
  • Miss Sinead O’Connor on the Late Late Show last night? No worries, here’s a round-up of what happened including the singer’s thoughts on men, sex, escorts, vibrators and what chance she might have with Ryan Tubridy.
  • Perhaps you missed O’Connor because you were down at the Electric Picnic. Check out how people who are there are getting on day two of the festival.
  • Today we’ve been asking whether you reckon Ireland can beat Russia on Tuesday after Giovanni Trappatoni’s men had a disappointing night against Slovakia at the Aviva yesterday. So far, three-quarters of you think not.
  • Elsewhere, in sport a significant day at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu where Usain Bolt won the 200 metres race whilst it wasn’t such a good day for our own Derval O’Rourke.
  • Finally, check out this time lapse video of the Irish Defence Forces restoring the historic Sliabh na mBan car which was part of Michael Collins’ convoy at Beal na Blath where he was assassinated in 1922. The car was unveiled publicly for the first time today by the Taoiseach at the Curragh in Co Kildare.

Amstrad were shite. I remember the day I got my Commodore 64. And I really enjoyed watching the demise of Amstrad over the following years.

Meanwhile copying games on a double deck tape player was so sweet.

In fact I’m not sure if you even classify them as computers.
I think the guy who used to make the props for the original Star Trek done them as a nixer.

Remember war games and the whopper computer running on magnetic tape :p. He’ll I remember floppy disks my first home pc had about 800mb hd in it. Them were the days where now 6gigs ain’t even enough
