A busy city park on a sunny afternoon. There’s a location that you’d figure safety in numbers might apply. Nope. It’s no longer our city. Dublin belongs to the underclass.

There is no such thing as so called class in Ireland my good man, only decent people and dirt birds Money doesn’t make someone a better person, many a privileged fcuker has been jailed for voilent acts against the person. Unfortunately for us, some judges do think that there is class distinction hence light sentences handed down to some serious dangerous people

@Anna Kearns Yes, you’re right of course. They probably came from broken homes and we should hug them and provide free counselling, legal services and offer them absolution. Did you ever hear the phrase “Judge me by my deeds not my words”. No one should be allowed get way with that behaviour without repercussion. Even if it turns out that there is mental instability involved, measured and appropriate repercussions should be meted out. People have the right to feel safe from assault on our streets or anywhere else and that should be protected above all else.

If you think there is no class system in Ireland you are blind to how any society works. There is no such thing as a classless society. Ever notice how rich people have rich kids and poor people have poor kids? It’s as simple as that. You have a load of poor people, a lot of people in the middle and a few rich at the top. Violence is not unique to any group though.

I have loved ones who live there and I fear for their safety every day. Most people there are decent – but there are very many who really are not. Part of their job is traffic police, so surely hiding behind bus stops to catch people speeding or using bus lanes is doing their job correctly. As much as we might not like it. Like most work places, their role is split into various divisions, not everyone in the Gardai has the same work description!!

I agree. It’s extremely unlikely that this was an attempted robbery of a stranger by a junkie given the time of day and the busy location. More than likely this was an argument that got out of hand between 2 people who knew each other. It’s all speculation though. Let’s see what the facts are before condemning the city.

Over the years at least 2 women have been raped in the Green and one of these happened on a sunny summers day and the parks was full of people. The young woman pleaded with people who were lying in the sun near her to help and they didn’t. There is no such thing as a safe public park and I agree with the Molzer. I walk my 2 dogs in Stephens Green twice a day and have done so for more than 2 years and I could count on one hand the amount of times I have seen them patrolling it. Amazing given the amount of junkies that hang around in it all day. Up in the part where they often have lunchtime plays during the summer months is usually packed with the not so local hash heads. As for the locals, well I’m one of them and I can assure you that the local kids and teenagers tend not to hang around this area.
