Here's why Domhnall Gleeson called himself 'British' at Comic Con

Come to the dark side, we have better lightsabers.

2015 Comic-Con - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Panel Gleeson (centre) at SDCC on Friday Associated Press Associated Press

IRISH ACTOR DOMNHALL Gleeson was announced as part of the main cast for the new Star Wars film last April, but until now his role remained a mystery.

Finally, at a ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ panel at the San Diego Comic Con event on Friday his character was revealed.

Gleeson (who’s the son of actor Brendan) will play General Hux, a baddie in charge of Starkiller Base.

At the event Gleeson was asked for some details about his character and he’s widely reported as responding:

Which prompted a bit of this:

What Gleeson actually said (in his very Irish accent) when asked by the host “are you really evil?” was:

british

Stand down everyone. Gleeson was not denying his Irish roots, he was simply giving a detail about General Hux. Phew. We can all get on with our days.

All the empire officers were played by British actors in the first films, peter cushing, micheal sheard ect and all had british accents. Presume Glessons character has a british accent in the movie. British accent = badguy in star wars , much like red shirt in star trek equals dead man walking.

But they were filmed in London, only the leads were US actors (apart from David Prowse (Darth Vader) & he was masked & dubbed with an American.

    I didn’t know this was a thing.

Why did you use that as a headline if he in fact didn’t call himself British? It’s obvious he didn’t mean himself, so this is a non-story. Meanwhile you ignored the BBC actually claiming Conor MacGregor as one of their own. By reporting on this instead, it makes it look petty when anyone gets annoyed when they actually do pretend someone’s British.

British baddies are actually the best. Jason Issacs as Malfoy senior comes to mind here….. Stick an uppercrust English accent on a pig and he would be perfect as a baddie bent on world domination. Only he would do it from his sty instead of a lair. Sadly I have no life or taste or refinement and would definitely go see such a movie.
