Priest attacked as men armed with handgun raid cathedral

One of the men was armed with a suspected handgun.

A PRIEST WAS treated for minor injuries after he was attacked during a raid on St Peter’s Cathedral in the Divis area of Belfast yesterday.

Two main gained access to the building yesterday at around 9.30pm, according to police.

One man was armed with a suspected handgun – and the suspects made off with a sum of cash.

Detective Constable Pauline McCalmont, who is heading up the investigation, is appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the cathedral between 9pm and 11pm last night to get in touch on the non-emergency number 101.

    As someone who grew up 100 mtrs from one of Ireland’s so called safest beaches that has seen a number of drownings over the years, I totally echo the above sentiments. Although it looks calm and inviting…….. it’s a liar. Never trust the sea!! Please believe me!!

    I really think all school children should be taught to swim, like vaccination it could save their lives!

    @Brian Hunt: Agree and the driving theory test for the leaving cert. Basic life knowledge when they are young will go along way.
