Here are the industries that are hiring and firing right now

There has been a 17% increase in the number jobs available over the past year.

THE TOTAL NUMBER of jobs available has increased annually by 17% according to the IrishJobs.ie Index, which reports on all jobs advertised.

It found a 7% increase in the second quarter from April to June this year, compared with the previous quarter.

In that time there was an increase in hiring in sectors such as; Medical Professionals and Healthcare (32%), Legal (up 15%) and Manufacturing (up 17%).

However, decreases were evident in sectors such as Social and Not for Profit (down 14%), Security (down 8%), Customer Service and Call Centres (down 5%) and Sales and Marketing (both down by 4%).

The Index also found that overall, 50% of jobseekers, either employed, currently unemployed or in education and training, believe that the jobs market is improving.

Almost two in 10 of jobseekers currently employed have already received a salary increase this year and three in 10 are expecting an increase.

Yet while many workers feel more secure, 93% of those surveyed, both employed and unemployed, would upskill or retrain for a new job.

The industries leading the increase with significant growth compared to the same time last year are:

  • Financial Services and Insurance (up 49%)
  • Telecoms (up 41%),
  • Science, Pharmaceuticals and Food (up 28%)
  • Construction, Architecture and Property (up 18%)
  • Retail (15%)
  • and Tourism (up 14%)

Marketing Director with IrishJobs.ie Safann MacCarthy said, “The Jobs Index has shown steady growth in the jobs market over the past year and this growth is gaining momentum.

“Employers across SME’s and large enterprise are hiring at a greater rate with a very positive impact on the total number of jobs available.”

    This is a ridiculous article and the author is clearly a gov’t mouthpiece….(well except the bits that talk about reduction in jobs…that’s obviously true).

    And the worst thing about this article is it also suggests the quality of jobs, given the growth sectors, are also improving.

    Grrrrr. This does not fit in with the agenda of most posters on these forums.

    This leftie doesn’t listen to Joe Duffy and appreciates jobs. of cours there’s always room for improvement but to assume anyone in politics has some sort of ideological stand against jobs then you need your head examined

    No its just simple human progress. very rare we have a government so bas that all human progress just stalls for several years. For example you could have several useless governments from now until 2030 but I garuntee you 2030 will have a higher standard of living than 2015
