35 Bill Cosby accusers speak out to New York Magazine

The women range in age from their early 20s to 80.

THIRTY-FIVE ALLEGED victims of Bill Cosby were interviewed and photographed for New York magazine this week.

The comedian has denied all sexual assault cases.

However, in a court deposition in 2005 he said he offered pills and payments to women he had sexual encounters with, and tried to hide it from his wife.  The deposition was made public three weeks ago.

The magazine states, “The group of women Cosby allegedly assaulted functions almost as a longitudinal study - both for how an individual woman, on her own, deals with such trauma over the decades and for how the culture at large has grappled with rape over the same time period.”

“In the ’60s, when the first alleged assault by Cosby occurred, rape was considered to be something violent committed by a stranger … But among younger women, and particularly online, there is a strong sense now that speaking up is the only thing to do, that a woman claiming her own victimhood is more powerful than any other weapon in the fight against rape.”

The magazine has also released audio of six of the women recounting their stories about Bill Cosby.

New York Magazine is currently ‘experiencing technical difficulties’ and is offline.

Some people on Twitter are questioning if this is due to a large volume of people going on the site to read the interviews.

Christ! Thirty five living victims that have so far come forward with accounts of rape at the hands of Bill Cosby, so there are most probably others who are still too afraid (for any number of reasons) to reveal that they were also assaulted by him, or maybe victims who simply don’t remember being drugged & raped by Cosby. Either way, we’re looking at large numbers for a serial rapist who had a distinctive modus operandi.
He had to have been being protected by people in the industry who were close to him, Ray Donovan types who kept his true persona secret from the masses.

I can’t help but think that there must have been some degree of willingness on their part. Fame is a very powerful aphrodisiac for women. Celebrities seem to be able to get vast numbers of women into their beds, pills or not. What looks are to men, fame & wealth is to women. It’s how we evolved. (If you’re going to reply to this, try and make it an intelligent comment and skip the expletives.)

How exactly can a person consent when they’ve been deliberately drugged?

What you appear to be missing is thet fact that this person has a very particular prediliction which appears to be having sex with women who cannot consent.

It actually has nothing to do with celebrity status, because if all he wanted was to have sex with a consenting adult he wouldn’t have been drugging them. Instead he, very deliberately, made sure they were passed out before raping them.

So no, there was not “some degree of willingness”. For that there would have to be consent and you can’t consent when you’re passed out!

Going to a man’s room for a drink does not equal consent to sex. Maybe some of the women wanted to have sex with Cosby but when he spiked their drinks, he removed their ability to control their situation and give consent to sex and that’s rape.

I’m sure in Cosby’s version the women “willingly took the pills”. The women themselves are saying differently.

It’s absolutely irrelevant whether they were drugged or not, nor whether they willingly took pills. It’s rape when it’s sex without consent – any other notion of pills etc stinks of victim blaming.

This is the drug he gave them and they voluntarily took in his room. Note the last sentence.

Methaqualone (brand name Quaalude[a] in the US and Mandrax in the UK) is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant of the quinazolinone class that acts as a sedative and hypnotic. The sedative–hypnotic activity of methaqualone was first noted by researchers in the 1950s and in 1962 methaqualone itself was patented in the US by Wallace and Tiernan.[2] Its use peaked in the early 1970s as a hypnotic, for the treatment of insomnia, and as a sedative and muscle relaxant. It is still produced and used clandestinely as a recreational drug throughout the world. The drug was popular in the 1970s with hippies and in the disco club scene.

Not sure how you’re not getting this William but sex without consent is rape.

They did not consent to sex.

And can you please provide evidence that these women knew they were being given Quaaludes. The overall impression I got was they thought they were getting a painkiller. Janice Dickinson certainly said she believed it was a painkiller, others were offered just a drink before passing out.

Not sure where you think there is any ambiguity here.

Tricia, 35 women went voluntarily to Cosby’s rooms and all took what they thought were pain killers? Give me a break!

The Quaaludes don’t knock you out. People went disco dancing with them in the 70′s. Apparently they are the main “party drug” in South Africa today. I don’t know if Cosby raped anyone but he’s innocent until proven guilty. These were all adult women and not children who were flattered by the attention of a celebrity. 30+ years after they are claiming rape.

There’s no doubt that Crosby’s a dirt bag but the simple fact is that these celebrities can and do bed hundreds of women. Many use drugs. Janice Dickinson was an alcoholic. There’s two sides to it.

… and not one of them made a formal complaint at the time? They were adults and not children.

What I think is happening, is that they now feel cheap, feel they were taken advantage of, that the sex was “dirty” and that yes they took mood altering drugs but everyone did then and many still do. They are claiming rape but maybe that’s a gross exaggeration.

How many women have had sex when they were pissed with complete strangers? Are those men all guilty of rape?

This is all getting out of hand. In Sweden you can now be charged for chatting up a women with the intention of trying to get her to have sex. In Norn Iron men can be charged for saying “Here’s a hundred quid love, how about a shag.”

It was consensual, all 47 of them and they’re now lying about it because for some reason claiming to have been raped is, what, better than having an unsatisfying sexual encounter and just forgetting about it? Sure……….
