Solitaire is back on Windows but it's going to cost you

That’s right, it’s a freemium game.

ONCE UPON A TIME, when Windows 95 was the PC system of choice, people passed their time by playing Solitaire.

A simple card game, it was included free from Windows 95 onwards and was a way of killing time at work or anywhere a computer happened to be available.

Fast-forward to Windows 10 and it’s still there in the form of Microsoft Solitaire Collection. The game (called Klondike) features new game types, different card faces, daily challenges, tournaments and a few other small additions.

Yet what have might slipped past numerous people is it’s a freemium game. Ads show up at random times in-between games, taking up the full screen and if you want to remove them, you’ll have to pay.

If you want to get rid of ads for a month, it’s €1.49 and a yearly subscription will set you back €9.89. Paying that removes all advertisements and gives you more virtual coins if you complete daily challenges.

Windows 10 solitare Windows 10 Windows 10

The same thing was included in the Windows 8.1 version but it wasn’t a pre-installed game, instead accessed through the Windows Store.

At least we still have the memories of the old Solitaire.

Well they look to be moving into the advertising business model. That’s the future because people are not paying for software like they used to. Imagine how many would have pirated windows 10 anyway. So they going the way of Android. Give it away to get more developers on board who make it better & charge money on the premium version of apps.

Don’t be smug about laughing at the tech from 20 years ago.
They will laugh at our 2015 tech just as much in 20 years time.
