These three women used Galway Races Ladies Day to make a point about abortion

They went back in time to talk about the present.

LADIES DAY IS the day when fashion rules at a racing festival.

That was today at the Galway Races and three women used the opportunity to make a political statement.

British campaigner Emily Davison famously died at the Epsom Derby in 1913 when she ran in front of the British King’s horse in the name of women’s suffrage.

In Ballybrit today, Sarah O’Toole, Elaine Mears and Mary McGill remembered that event and used it to make a point about Ireland’s abortion laws.

The three dressed in early 2oth century clothing and carried slogans calling on the 8th amendment to be repealed.

Even the briefcase had something to say.

Tool. Imagine landing in Kabul, of all places, plastered. Can’t think the local cops would be too pleased to see a drunk and a drunk Russian. He’s lucky it landed where it did by comparison
