THIS WEEKEND A giant balloon launch is being carried out in Galway.
This is in aid of the ‘Care for Shane’ trust, which has been set up to provide funding for Shane Grogan, who suffered a serious brain injury after an assault in 2012.
As part of this 5,000 balloons will be released. Each of the balloons will be carrying its own individual number and tag.
A competition will be in place whereby the person who finds a balloon the furthest away from The Palace Grounds in Galway, which is the launch site, will be declared the winner.
The release of the balloons will be taking place between 1pm and 3pm this afternoon.
Shane Grogan sustained his injuries when he was struck in the head with a brick in the Milltown Road area of Tuam.
It is hoped that the event will raise funds to allow a self-contained unit to be built in Shane’s family home in Tuam. He has spent the last three months at the Central England Rehabilitation Unit at Leamington Spa in the UK.
Balloons will be available for purchase at the event for €5.
