Ireland's most popular place to order takeaway has delivered some very tasty numbers

Just Eat’s latest results are in – and the returns are healthy.

IN A SIGN that consumers’ appetites for quick takeaway orders are only growing, Just Eat just returned some very health figures.

The online delivery-booking service, the most popular platform in Ireland, said its active users had grown from just under 7 million in June last year to 11 million for the same time in 2015.

The online delivery-booking service now has a market value of just under £3 billion (€4.3 billion) after its share price more than doubled over the past year.

In its results for the first half of 2015, the UK-based company also reported a more than 50% jump in its orders, revenue and profits when compared to the same six months in 2014.

Some of that growth has come from buying up smaller operators in countries like Australia and Mexico, but in a positive sign for the company the buyouts don’t appear to have hurt its profitability.

This map from today’s update shows how Just Eat has successfully carved out a niche in Europe and several other markets:

However, despite the tidy set of figures, the company still faces stiff competition in Europe from the likes of Germany’s Delivery Hero, which has been on a buying binge since taking nearly €500 million in investment from Rocket Internet.

Even closer to home, UK-based Deliveroo, which uses its own drivers rather than relying on stores to handle their own deliveries, recently raised about €63 million to fuel its expansion a few months after it launched in Ireland.

But earlier this year, the head of Just Eat Ireland, Amanda Roche-Kelly, told us the company wasn’t worried about competition from other services as it considered its main rival to be people ordering direct from food outlets over the phone.

It’s worth whatever the market is willing to pay for it – not what the people trying to sell it are saying it’s worth.

So, what’s going on here, I ask?

He bought Humewood for €25M and sold it to Malone for €7.2m then he bought the Westin with Malone now he’s selling a €50m hotel for €17m? ???

I assume Malone will be involved in the purchase – curiouser and curiouser

As it is a hotel, would it make sense for the government to buy it and turn it into a hospital. Surely cheaper than building one!!!
