THE ARCHBISHOP OF Dublin Diarmuid Martin has defended the right of Catholic schools to give preference to Catholic children applying to attend.
It comes after a Dublin mother claimed that her four-year-old son was denied a place in a number of schools because he wasn’t baptised.
In an interview with the Irish Independent published today, Martin says that the problem is with an overall lack of places and that ”it is not fair to blame the Church.”
Does he have a point? Is it not natural that Catholic Church-owned schools would prioritise Catholic children, and is it not up to the State to provide non-denominational schools?
Or should Catholic schools treat every child the same regardless of their religion, or lack thereof?

I actually had drinks with Bruce in this very establishment about 5 years ago. Or so I thought, it was probably around the 6th pint when he tried to sell me a clearly stolen ipad that I realised he probably wasn’t really Springsteen. Still a nice guy though. Although he did steal my wallet.

I like Bruce’s music, don’t get me wrong, but €98 to stand at any concert is extortion, especially in this rain soaked country. At those rates he should be ordering bottles of Midleton not Redbreast in The Long Hall.

Bruce has dropped massively on my respect register since he agreed to break an arts and cultural boycott of Israel. Those who played in Apartheid South Africa were not welcome in Ireland, neither should those who play in Israel. And save me the anti semitic rant, I have close ties with a group of Jews in Vienna (Shalom Alaikum) who are doing amazing work helping Syrian refugees settle in Vienna.
Has that concert been announced .I go to all his shows but will not go again until this is proven wrong ..only then will I seek tickets .can’t belive he would actually play there .

Nothing to do with Judaism, as I myself believe in evolution. I see all humans as equal. Unfortunately, the state of Israel doesn’t see it as I do. It is a Jewish state for a Jewish people, just like the former S Africa was a white state for a white people. This is the root of the problem, not my objection to a concert, their treatment of their fellow human beings is the problem.
Ye forget to mention the money he comes for too! Because at €104 for a ticket I’m sure he’s getting a nice chunk of it!

I bought Born to Run very early, when he was being hyped by Rolling Stone, then bought his previous album and liked him, and saw him at Slane, where he was one of the best acts ever; And the River, which was a fine album, then Born in the USA, a bit overhyped. And I’d go to a concert like a flash.
The trouble is, I always thought he was just a wee bit overrated, slightly pastiche, the movie version of a rock star, plus he ran out of juice many years ago.
He didn’t run out of juice two years ago at thomond park. The juice was still flowing at 11.30pm three and a half hours in.
Three tickets standing with herself and the little man. Looking forward to it
Guinness is much of a muchness no matter where you have it these days, I prefer Beamish nowadays anyway but they definitely do something magical to it in The Long Hall. The Boss seems like a sound fella as well.
