JON STEWART ENDED 16 years as host of ‘The Daily Show last night with a standing ovation and was played out by rock legend Bruce Springsteen, bringing to close a unique era in US broadcasting.
As the hash tag #JonVoyage trended on Twitter, an emotional Stewart made his last appearance on the Comedy Central show, thanking colleagues, fans and family and delivering a final monologue.
“Nothing ends. It’s just a continuation. It’s a pause in the conversation. So rather than saying goodbye or good night, I’m just going to say I’m gonna go get a drink,” he said.
Since 1999 he has been a liberal conscience, from the end of the Clinton presidency and the arrival of George W. Bush, through the 9/11 attacks to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the financial crisis.
“Bullshit is everywhere. There’s very little that you’ll encounter in life that has not been infused in some way with bullshit,” said Stewart in his final monologue.
The best defense against bullshit is vigilance so if you can smell something, say something.

Trevor Noah, the South African comic who will replace Stewart in September, cheekily appeared to measure up the set and… Stewart’s crotch.
But few fans believe Trevor can fill Stewart’s enormous shoes.
Many were already missing Stewart’s wit as last night’s Republican debate ended moments after the final, pre-taped show went on air.
“It just feels like this is going to be a tremendous void and it’s hard to see how it can be filled,” said Chris Reilly, a homemaker from Connecticut in the queue to attend the show for a fourth time.
Besides taking politicians and TV networks to task — CNN and Fox News in particular — his show had a guest list second to none.
President Barack Obama has shared the screen with Stewart seven times, most recently last month, when he joked he would ban Stewart from leaving.
The White House blog paid tribute to “one of the most influential programs on television” that “changed the way we talk about the world around us.”
Winning almost two dozen Emmy awards, Stewart also cultivated and nurtured new talent, helping to launch the careers of comedians who are now stars in their own right, such as Stephen Colbert and John Oliver.
Conservative, liberal divide
Stewart paid tribute to them in his final show.
He offered viewers a behind-the-scenes tour of the show’s rather cramped premises in the Hell’s Kitchen district of Manhattan, and videoed introductions to seemingly all the backstage staff.
But the highlight was the closing set from Springsteen, a fellow New Jersey native, who blasted out renditions of his hit tracks ‘Land of Hope and Dreams’ and ‘Born to Run’.
Watched by a modest TV audience of 1.3 million a day, The Daily Show reached several million more online, in particular younger viewers.
But according to the Pew Research Center, less than one percent of conservatives said they trusted the show, while nearly half of liberals – 45 percent – do.
It was in times of crisis that those Americans looked to Stewart as a rock.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, he was there fighting back tears.
In June, after the racially motivated murders of black worshippers at a church in Charleston, he delivered a searing monologue about America’s “gaping racial wound that will not heal, yet we pretend doesn’t exist”.
Comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld was one of those to pay their respects. “Wish you all best, dude,” he wrote on twitter.

That’s a SERIOUS data breach. That girl should take the HSE to the cleaners, that might clean up their act.
The number in question also links to the fake pregnancy advice service that in a previous incarnation was telling women in crisis pregnancies that abortions cause breast cancer.
I won’t name the induvidual responsible on here, but sure enough he campaigned for election previously with a picture of the Virgin Mary on his pamphlets.
Also masquerades as the ‘British Pregnancy Services’, despite being based in Phibsborough. One reviewer on google states ‘Please don’t go here, it’s not trying to help you, only lies, shame and deceit. Anti-choice.’

Whether you’re pro-choice or pro-life there is no reason but to be outraged by this. There is no excuse for leaking patient details, it’s absolutely disgusting and highly illegal. What the journal failed to include was the text/the address she was told to go to. 9 Berkley Street, Dublin 1. Right beside a legitimate pro-choice pregnancy support service.

The organisation next door with blue frontage are the bogus myoptions people, there are videos on YouTube showing this. Also the directions in the text message gave directions to the bogus organisation.

Anonymous messages lifted off Facebook are being raised on the floor of our national parliament? If what’s in the message is true then surely gardai should be informed and an investigation conducted. Info from that investigation could very well be appropriate to be raised on our parliament floor, but this approach seems bizarre. I’m a little tempted to set up a few Facebook accounts and see how much trouble I can cause based on this.

With how these people react, I wouldn’t be attaching my name to this either. Fairplay to the girl for bringing peoples attention to this and hope whoever leaked her information is found and held accountable, terrible!

Incredibly strange , I find it hard to believe HSE staff leaked sensitive information, They deal with everything from People with AIDS to alls kinds of personal tragedy. could it not be the person’s own internet searches?

Nepotism has the HSE in the mess it finds itself in, especially at senior management level, money going to the wrong sources within the sector. (The real workers in the place are on strike)
I’ve heard countless stories of woefully under qualified management running wards, depts etc. look up the report for the Beaumont Hospital Carpark Project as a prime example of people out of their depth running the show, millions lost. Accountability is a non practice until the shît doesn’t just hit the fan but destroys the thing.

The person involved should contact the Gardai and the Data Protection Commissioner. This is criminal conduct and should not be left to the amateurs at the HSE no matter how well intentioned.

It’s not just the leaking of data although that is a sackable offense. Under GDPR someone who uses personal data for a different purpose than it was collected for can also be in deep trouble. Hashtag things that never happened
A data breach in the HSE happens as easily as a bag of confidential patient files dumped on the side of the road (take your pick from the many recent examples). This type of data breach often results in no reported disciplinary action and it might not even be possible to track the person responsible depending on how organised / disorganised the hospital/HSE is. The rogue group could simply have picked their way through the discarded files.

This is an absolute and utter disgrace. Whatever your thoughts on the morality of abortion it is now a legal right as voted by the majority of Irish people and is protected by law. This is an inexcusable breach of data protection and needs to be treated as such. Forget for a moment that it is the hot topic of abortion and that it is, instead, a leak of confidential medical information. Whoever is responsible should be subject to the same repercussions as are meant to be exacted. But this is Ireland, what are the chances of that happening.
How do we know this is not fake news, there is a vagueness about it.
