Pics: Here's why 60,000 people are in a field in Tullamore today

This is the 24th annual National Livestock Show in Tullamore.

THE NATIONAL LIVESTOCK Show at Tullamore, Co Offaly is expected to draw crowds of up to 60,000 people today.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney said “Agricultural shows such as this one in Tullamore play an important role in the social calendar of the farming community.

They allow farmers to meet their friends and fellow farmers and discuss the latest development in farming and agri-food business.

“This is all the more relevant now the sector is such a key driver of economic growth and export earnings.”

Garda Adrian Nevin even called in some back up at The Garda Community Relations Stand at the show.

The site stretches over 250 acres with over 8 hectares of tented pavilions.

The show has more than 700 trade stands with cooking demonstrations also on display:

Traffic

AA Roadwatch says delays are expected around the event during the day.

A shuttle bus service is running from O’Connor Square and Tullamore Train Station every hour from 9am.

A section of the N52 from Mucklagh to Blueball will be closed to non-show traffic from approximately 7am to 8pm.

AA Roadwatch says that diversions will be signposted but adds that a “one-way traffic system will operate around the Showgrounds at peak times, which will add to delays”.

There is free car parking for over 20,000 cars.
