TORONTO HAS BEEN named the world’s most liveable city by a leading architecture and design magazine.

The Canadian city, home to over 5,000 Irish emigrants, was praised by Metropolis magazine for going through an attractive transformation period, improving transport links and preserving a major greenbelt.

The city’s Kensington Market area comes in for particular praise, being called one of the city’s most successful neighbourhoods.

“With a vibrant arts and food scene, historic townscape, and mixed traffic, it’s easy to see why so the area is beloved by so many Torontonians.”

The city’s embrace of a multicultural populace is also praised.

“The [Ismaili] centre highlights the diversity that fuels Toronto’s civic dynamism—successive waves of immigration have made the city a microcosm of the world. Though there are inevitable tensions, multiculturalism has turned a waspy colonial outpost into a model of tolerance envied globally.”

Toronto beat out Tokyo and Helsinki to top honours. The rest of the top ten was filled out by:

  • Copenhagen
  • Hong Kong
  • Indianapolis
  • Medellín
  • Melbourne
  • Pittsburgh
  • Rotterdam
  • Singapore

Another Irish emigration hub, Christchurch, was named in the cities to watch.

What’s a career politician? Surely most other public servants could be described as career teachers, career doctors and career Guards! Look at candidates on their merit. I doubt you even know much about Avril Doyle. I don’t either but I don’t instantly dismiss someone either! *rant over*

MEPs. The most pointless, overpaid, and irrelevant political representatives of the lot.

I can’t think what encourages them to go for the office of Uachtaran na hEireann!

It’s Gerry Adams. That explains it all.

I remember Gerry many years ago, when Uncle Gaybo tried to ambush him on the LLS. He wiped the floor with Byrne and his cronies, even though there was an even stronger smell of semtex off him then. He gained many admirers that night, and paradoxically did no harm at all for the cause of peace in the North.

Like FF, he has been too long at the helm, he’s lost whatever credibility he had in the first place, has been the subject of controversy for matters aside from his republican background, and has been reduced to a laughing stock in the Dail more than once.

Kevin O whatever his name is was, albeit windy, a far stronger performer in the Dail than Lord Adams.
