Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin and Renua leader Lucinda Creighton RollingNews.ie

Is Renua just ripping off Fianna Fáil's policies?

The party launched another reform proposal today.

RENUA HAS REJECTED claims that it has been ripping off policies previously announced by Fianna Fáil.

Lucinda Creighton’s new political party has put out a number of policy documents in recent weeks in a bid to enhance its credibility in the run-up to the next general election.

At the weekend the Sunday Times reported on claims by Fianna Fáil’s Dara Calleary that two of these policy documents  - on public procurement and the treatment of small businesses – were almost identical to his own party’s proposals in these areas.

But speaking outside Leinster House today, Renua’s deputy leader Billy Timmins shot back at Calleary.

Having been part of the construct of the last policies, and worked with some of our volunteers and staff on them, we actually weren’t even aware that Fianna Fáil actually had a policy in these areas.

renua lids Renua TDs Billy Timmins and Terence Flanagan and Senator Paul Bradford outside Leinster House today TheJournal.ie TheJournal.ie

The Wicklow TD was speaking at the launch of a Renua policy on reforming the budgetary process.

Among other things, the party wants to enhance the powers of Oireachtas committees and empower the Fiscal Advisory Council to provide independent costing of other parties’ budget proposals.

Timmins admitted that some of the proposals were not completely new ideas. He added: “Fianna Fáil were in government for a long period of time.

I thought they would have had all their policies implemented. From our point of view we’re quite happy to see any policy, be it ours or others – if we believe it’s progressive – being implemented.

He said other parties are “quite welcome” to take on Renua’s policies and “run with them”.

Later, Timmin said that coalition with Fianna Fáil after the next election is “not out of the question”. He jokingly added:

According to Dara Calleary sure we’re singing off there same hymn sheet, we’re doing a deal with them anyway!

Party leader Lucinda Creighton previously ruled out coalition with Micheál Martin’s party in an interview with TheJournal.ie:

What “new” policies ? … Lucinda is a dyed- in- the- wool Blueblouse and there will be very little difference between her and Enda on policy. She would still be spouting FG spin were it not for her expulsion.

Fine Gael are using Fianna Fail polices and claim they are their own, so it makes complete sense that the Fine Gael reserve squad would do the same.

every time they use the word ‘progressive’ they should be challenged. there is nothing remotely ‘progressive’ about Renua’s overall ideology such as it it is. they are yet another (unnecessary) conservative party in a system that is already clogged up with conservatism.

    @Sunshine

If you connect the dots that are not there then you will see is the pathway to heaven but 6 and 7 inverted becomes hell and that’s where the first FG manifesto was written hence the connection to the numbers which if you read them in a different way to anyone else will uneil you the truth of corporate greed hiding in ones sleeve.

Aside from that I would say you are the type of person to show up to a party as a designated driver, and then proceed to tell everyone for the rest of the night about how much you are not drinking and how cool you are. Alas drink rhymes with sink which is exactly what I fell in when I tried to take up tap dancing the other day.

Sur ff and fg are always taking ideas from other people and claiming them as their own. Thats what they do. The opposition submits a bill in the dail, its rejected by the majority gov, then a few months later the gov submits the same bill, and its passed, and then they tell us how great they are for being resposible for this great initiative they had. They’d do anything for your vote.

We are far from a democratic society with this government constantly telling us how it is going to be whether we like it or not.
