Prison U-turn: Oscar Pistorius is staying in jail for now

The Olympian was scheduled to be released on Friday.

CONVICTED KILLER OSCAR Pistorius will not be released from prison this Friday as expected.

South Africa’s Department of Justice says it is putting the Olympian’s release from prison on hold until his case is reviewed again by a parole board.

Department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga says Pistorius’ release will have to be reviewed again because he was approved to be moved to house arrest too early.

Mthunzi says Pistorius should have served 10 months of his sentence before being considered for release. He was approved for parole in June, eight months into his sentence.

Pistorius was due to be moved to house arrest on Friday after serving 10 months of his five-year sentence for manslaughter after killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

Mhaga didn’t say when the parole board would meet to consider Pistorius for release from jail.

The Olympian had been expect to leave jail this week but the country’s justice minster has now said that this decision was “premature”.

“Victims Justice” is a dangerous concept – justice should be blind and not influenced by the opinions of those external to due process.
He was found guilty of manslaughter, not murder, in a very public trial.

In this case justice was blind …he got out of bed , grabbed a gun, did not realise his girlfriend was not in the bed by the way and shot the bathroom door and killed her. But because he was ‘famous’ and white it was not murder. If it was an ordinary black man guess what the verdict would have been ?. Yes justice was blind ….colour blind

If you look at any cases like this being famous and white is how you get a lesser charge. Being rich does help dramatically because you can afford extra investigation by your legal team. Public persecution can’t match the work and the case gets picked apart.
This is what happened with OJ. He wasn’t that famous then but still rich. He isn’t white either in case you missed that.

He was found guilty of culpable homicide. Given the degree of culpability, the sentence could have been a lot longer. His defence appeared to be that he didn’t mean to kill her but would have been quite happy to exercise summary justice over an intruder hiding behind a door and not posing any identified threat.

This is another SA fudge. Does it say he is eligible for parole on completion of 10 months, or is he entitled to it after 10 months, or is he entitled to be told by eight months that he can be paroled after 10 months?
Reminds me of the Ndlandla mess.
They obviously want to let him out but want to find a way to do it that protects the system from ridicule.

Good. It’s makes a mockery out of her death but he could be out in 2 months. I hope people keep putting pressure on the parole board not to let him out until he serves the whole term. Why is somebody eligible for parole for killing somebody after 10 months, oh yes because they believed him when he said it was an accident.

Just a thought..but, if i woke up and found my spouse out of the bed my immediate reaction would NOT be to get a gun and shoot blindly into a bathroom. I think the first thing i would do is say “Wife are you in the toilet”, no response…get out of bed, crawling, as in his case, ask again, “Wife are you alright”? No answer….crawl to door of bathroom, knock on door and repeat. If no answer, panic for the well being of the person I love. NOT fire a gun through the fuxkin glass. FFS…….
