Last week she was facing solitary confinement after being found in possession of Vanity Fair’s Caitlyn Jenner issue, Malala Yousafzai’s autobiography and an expired tube of toothpaste.

A panel at Fort Leavenworth prison have found her guilty of four charges: disrespect, disorderly conduct, keeping prohibited property in her cell and having committing medicine misuse (the toothpaste).

She has been spared solitary confinement but will have a number of restrictions placed on her – including not being allowed to visit the prison gym or library or go outside.

Manning said the charges could affect her chances of getting parole in the future.

A petition of more than 100,000 signatures was delivered to the US army liaison office in Congress asking for the charges against Manning to be dropped.

The Guardian quotes attorney Chase Strangio as saying Manning is “so thankful for the thousands of people from around the world who let the government know that we are watching and scrutinising what happens to her behind prison walls”.

“It was no doubt this support that kept [Manning] out of solitary confinement.”

The transgender former US army soldier is serving a 35-year military prison sentence for leaking thousands of official documents to Wikileaks.
