FOUR PRISON OFFICERS were injured and three hospitalised after an attack in Mountjoy on Sunday evening.
One officer was head-butted while another had his finger dislocated.
Sources told TheJournal.ie that it happened after one inmate stated that he was going to attack the next officer he saw, after he was sent back to the landing when he was leaving the visiting area.
Other prisoners then joined in on the attack on the B1 landing.
Kenneth ‘Shambie’ Williams of Barry Avenue in Finglas is now facing disciplinary action over the attack.
The 30-year-old is serving a six-year sentence after he threw a bicycle at gardaí to prevent them from chasing a teenager he had given a gun to.
He has 106 previous convictions and was jailed for five years in 2006 after he shot at a garda during an attempted robbery.

6 guards with masks and batons go into his cell and batter him to within an inch of his life, when he recovers do it again, repeat until the buttons are wore out, replace the buttons and start again

This is happening far too often at this stage; it seems a weekly, sometimes bi-weekly, story.
Facing disciplinary action? The whole thing should be investigated by guards, take him to court and receive at least an extra 12 months for each assault. Instead, prison authorities will prob just confiscate his playstation for a week. Shambles of a set up
We should stop criminalising drug taking and there would be less criminals

Disciplinary Action? Its a serious assault, extend his sentence without early release and take the meat from his food for a month.
Build a prison on one of our uninhabited islands. Have no prison guards. Drop the food parcels by helicopter. Better still for solitary confinement utilise the uninhabited islands in Clew Bay. When a prisoner attacks a prison officer then that prisoner is sent as sole resident to one of these islands and given a months supply of food. The prisoner must survive Bear Grylis style. Also his/her sentence is doubled for each attack made on a prison officer.

We had a prison on an uninhibited island; Spike Island. Closed by McDowell and now this shower want to reopen it as a concert venue..

And once again Prison Staff are appearing in the media and not for something they have done wrong or for some good deed, but for being injured while carrying out their duties on behalf of all the law abiding, tax paying citizens of this State.
Prison Officers, Gardai, Hospital A&E staff and Firefighters face assaults both verbal and physical each and every working day. And on each occasion the perpetrator when found guilty is given what amounts to a slap on the wrist and told to behave or they will have to sit on the naughty step.
And still people will complain on here about those uniformed workers pay and pensions. And others will try and defend those perpetrators by telling us that its the States fault, Societies fault or yours or my fault that they are the way they are.
Until meaningful sentences are intoduced and the softly softly approach to our Prison System changes there is no deterrent.
Assault on a Frontline worker should carry a very minimum 5 year sentence for the first charge and double exponentially for every assault charge after. Prison policy should mirror that of the Japanese Prison System because the present on is quite obviously not working.

The Shawshank Redemption type of prison (excluding the sisters) would be an encentive not to break the law. A hiding given out to the likes of him.
He should be brought into a cell and the shiteeee beaten out of him , he will think twice bout doing it again, that’s what wrong with our guards and prison officers , there to soft, imagine doing something like that in Spain…the cops would kill ya and bury ya in a load of rumble..
A good beating means nothing to this low-life waste of oxygen, he was already beaten up by the ‘RA, battered to a pulp for what he was up to around Finglas! Funny that the specimen that brought this excuse for a human into this world called the gards for help after he was beaten… how ironic! And now his son is battering prison guards!

I’m sure they put it down to funding issues. The governor is an absolute joke and should step down immediately. As should our minister for “justice”.
… andddd we are paying for his food, seriously why keeping them alive? they are just stealing oxygen and OUR taxes. Send them to a remote island… petrol and a match… job done.
