Stop the lights - are we in for an Indian summer?

Fingers, toes, everything crossed… but to be honest it sounds like it depends upon your definition of ‘Indian Summer’.

THERE’S A LOT of talk that Ireland could be in line for an ‘Indian Summer’, ie a period of wonderful early Autumn sunny weather that leaves us all in unfeasibly good form before November comes along and spoils the party.

Given the particularly horrible nature of all things weather in Ireland over the last two weeks (and set to continue until the end of August) we could really do with some good news.

So is it happening? The answer… is a mixed bag really. Sigh.

Well first things first, an Indian Summer should really be a period of good weather at the end of September, start of October, not the start of September,” a Met Eireann spokesperson told TheJournal.ie.

We counter that any good weather at all after what’s been going on lately would be very welcome and the spokesperson concedes that it isn’t an exact term.

Drier

It’s looking like it’s going to be cool enough next week to be honest, particularly in the evenings and at night as you’d expect.
The weather will certainly be drier (after a wet weekend to come), but the temperatures aren’t really going to be hitting huge heights.

So what kind of temperatures are we looking at?

Afternoons will be between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius between next Tuesday and Saturday, with the lower marks being hit in the middle of the week.

Low temperatures will be between 5 and 8 degrees for the duration of the week, which is fairly nippy.

On the plus side, you won’t have to shell out for more suncream. Sad face.

When my car dried up yesterday there was sand all over the car.. This usually points towards a good spell of weather as my nanny always told me.. And in fairness to her she is usually spot on..

    Irish weather is the pits.
Even if we get a good summer it is short-lived and then… Months of cold and gloomy conditions.

Sand on cars usually means winds coming from over the Sahara. Your Nanny is therefore likely to have been highly accurate in her predictions – but you may just have had a windy day by the beach.

Must be really desperate for content putting this up. An article to tell people we’re going to have standard, mixed weather.

Well, it is getting colder. I’m no expert, but I’d go with No. There’ll be no tricking the alignment of good old mother Earth and the sun this year. just the regular, summer morphing seemlessly into winter. Ireland..The land of two seasons..putting the clocks forward and then back an hour.
