Here's how much you could earn working for Facebook

The social networking behemoth isn’t too shabby a place to ply your trade.

FACEBOOK IS ONE of the most widely used websites in the world, which means it takes an army of designers, engineers, managers, and more to make sure everything is running smoothly.

And over the past several years, Facebook has grown into more than just a social networking platform. It has dipped its toes into virtual reality, mobile commerce, and more, which is why it’s always looking for fresh talent.

Using data from Glassdoor, a job-search website, we compiled a list of the highest salaries you can earn while working at Facebook, ranked from lowest to highest.

(Note: Some positions listed on Glassdoor were excluded because there weren’t enough shared salaries. Each average salary included in this roundup has about 10 reviews. Each salary reflects the base pay without bonuses. This is an update of a post originally written by Matt Lynley and Karyne Levy.)

19. Software Engineer III

SE3

Salary: $113,830

This type of engineering job involves designing, developing, and writing software, according to a sample job description on Salary.com. It usually requires four to six years of experience, but Facebook may have its own specific prerequisites.

18. Application Operations Engineer

AOE

Salary: $114,197

Facebook needs smart, talented engineers to keep things running quickly and efficiently. For operatings engineering roles, Facebook typically asks basic questions about linux administration, according to those who shared their interview experience on Glassdoor.

17. Partner Engineer

PE

Salary: $116,862

As a partner engineer, you’d be tasked with helping the company’s strategic partners build and monetize their apps using Facebook. You need at least four years’ experience as a software engineer, technical consultant, or partner/sales engineer.

16. User Interface Engineer

UE

Salary: $120,987

The way Facebook looks and how easy it is to use are crucial parts of the experience for users. Apparently, the interview process for this role can be thorough — one candidate writing on Glassdoor said he or she had to take an eight-hour test before receiving a job offer.

15. Software Engineer

SE

Salary: $125,515

Facebook’s development cycle is fast, and it needs software engineers that can keep up. The company says on its careers page that it’s common to have code live on Facebook just days after it’s written. At other companies, this could usually take months.

14. Product Marketing Manager

PMM

Salary: $126,142

Upholding the Facebook brand and communicating it to the press and potential partners is important, which is why the role of product marketing manager is among the highest-paid positions at Facebook.

13. Network Engineer

NE

Salary: $132,129

As a networking engineer, you’ll be responsible for making sure various aspects of Facebook’s platform are up and running correctly. Facebook currently has 26 jobs open in various categories for network engineers.

12. Product Designer

PD

Salary: $133,810

Facebook needs product designers who can take broad, conceptual ideas and brainstorm ways to turn them into valuable products. You’ll need experience in front-end programming and to have previously built applications, as it says in the job description.

11. Production Engineer

PENG

Salary: $134,775

As a production engineer, you would be responsible for making sure Facebook’s products work correctly and are capable of growing. All of Facebook’s product and infrastructure teams include production engineers.

10. Front-End Engineer

FEENG

Salary$136,131

As a front-end engineer for Facebook, you would be working on the consumer-facing features in the company’s biggest products, like Newsfeed. There’s currently a job opening in Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters for this position.

9. Software Engineer IV

SE4

Salary: $136,833

Facebook’s software engineers are among its most valued employees, and higher-level engineers have the opportunity to make some serious cash at the company.

8. Research Scientist

RS

Salary$137,134

Research scientists are there to answer the important questions related to Facebook’s product with careful analysis and data crunching. They use scientific methods to find out what’s working and what isn’t, and what’s feasible under Facebook’s platform.

7. Data Scientist

DATAS

Salary: $137,184

Since Facebook is such a massive platform, it needs talented data scientists to conduct research and help make strategic decisions. There are currently data scientist positions open in various departments, including infrastructure, economic research, and product science.

6. Database Engineer

DENG

Salary: $141,635

The database engineer’s job is usually to design and keep track of complex databases. And at a company as large as Facebook, it’s probably a daunting task.

5. Technical Program Manager

TPM

Salary: $146,282

The technical program manager, as its name implies, is responsible for leading the core teams that power Facebook’s various products.

4. Product Manager

PRMAN

Salary$147,469

Product managers make everything come together at Facebook. They package a product built from multiple teams and make sure it gets shipped on time. Given the breakneck speed at which Facebook delivers most of its products, these guys are absolutely critical.

3. Software Engineer V

SENG5

Salary: $157,080

Engineers with the title “Software Engineer V” usually need eight to 10 years of experience, according to career site Monster.

2. Senior Software Engineer

SSENG

Salary: $160,638

These are among the most experienced engineers in the company, so it’s no wonder Facebook pays them well.

1. Engineering Manager

EMAN

Salary: $166,561

Engineering managers are tasked with building and managing a team of engineers for a specific product — like data analytics of the Facebook platform. They’re expected to have a little more problem-solving juice than your typical software engineer.

It’s a disgrace that Tom Crean doesn’t get the recognition in Ireland today that he deserves. A true Irish hero.

A great story. Another great is the story of George De Long and his attempt in 1879 to reach the north pole in the USS Jeanette. He had two Irish on board, Cole and Collins. That story is brilliantly told in a book called In the Kingdom of Ice. Like Shackleton’s crew, they were hardy men.

He had two Irish men in his crew. Tim Mccarthy from West Cork was the other one. He rarely gets a mention even though he was one of the six who made the 800 mile open boat journey to South Georgia. That’s considered one of the most remarkable parts of one of the most remarkable survival stories of all time, and three if the six crew were Irish.

There’s more of it, Philip Dolan. You don’t have to be Roman Catholic, barefoot and living off spuds to be Irish. Just because the huge majority used to be Catholic Irish, it does not negate the Irishness of those who weren’t.
