Gardaí clocked a car doing 169km per hour last night

A 24-hour speeding clamp-down ‘Operation Slow Down’ ended at 7am this morning.

GARDAÍ STOPPED A driver moving at 169km per hour last night.

“Car detected at 169kph in 120kph zone on Patrickswell bypass Limerick,” the force said on Twitter.

“Summons to follow, careless driving”.

A garda speeding clamp-down took place between 7am yesterday and 7am this morning.

18,000 vehicles were checked in a single four hour period yesterday.

Other over-the-limit incidents revealed yesterday included:

A vehicle doing 119 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the R173 in Ballyonan in Co Louth
A vehicle travelling at 108 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the R267 Bundoran
A vehicle travelling at 124 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N5 Castlebar

Gardaí have been encouraging people to show their support for ‘Operation Slow Down’ by sending ‘thumbs up’ photos to them on social media (not while driving, of course).
