EIRCOM HAS SAID services are now stable for customers impacted by the nationwide outage today.
Mobile and landline numbers for businesses across the country were affected as well as ISDN lines.
Standard fixed line numbers were not impacted.
The company confirmed an incident in its core telephony network this morning impacted 5% of its daily call volume.
In a statement earlier today, it said:
The incident resulted in intermittent service that has impacted customers which use 1800 and 1500 numbers as well as some mobile numbers.
The root cause of the incident is now being investigated.
Dublin Fire Brigade said earlier this afternoon that using landlines to contact emergency services “may be difficult”.
However Eircom said calls to 999 and 112 were not affected. The company apologised for inconvenience caused to customers.
Due to the issue Gas Networks Ireland was forced to establishe a temporary gas emergency number for customers seeking to report gas escapes.
Children’s charity Childline, meanwhile, advised service users experiencing network issues to seek help online.
ESB provided alternative numbers to customers who were unable to get through to its Eircom line.
And RTÉ’s Liveline programme confirmed that its usual 1850 number was also down.
Customers without service have been advised to report issues online, as calls cannot be connected to customer care centres.

Neal, the company I work for uses neither 1800 or 1500 numbers and our lines have been down since this morning.

Eircom and its mobile subs are certainly one of Ireland most incompetent organizations. Lots of staff…get through on the phone to customer service immediately…plenty of customer attention….but staff usually refuse to give their name or id and virtually absolutely everything they do ….they screw it up….incompetence is epidemic…quality control non existent…product knowledge in broadband support and elsewhere zero.
Ya I know a couple of lads who contract in IT for eircom, they say basically there is a cohort of long served people who haven’t a clue and don’t do any real work. They are a hangover from ESOP and public service days. Most of the work is done by contractors …
Why would they give their surname or i.d. in the age of social media, when it’s so easy to find someone online?
In my time as an eircom tech, we found that those contractors were usually the root cause of software upgrades which went pear shaped…..
hence we confined the upgrades to late night/early mornings, possibly week-ends, with a clear “go back” strategy in the event of problems.
What happens nowadays, I have no idea.

Eircom is a disaster waiting to happen because very little money has been spent on the network in the last years.
their broadband/fibre investment in the west of galway is dire, totally neglected, no opportunity for business and job creation etc
