Why was it reported that this man was killed twice?

David Cameron has confirmed the death of Reyaad Khan this week, although his death was initially reported in July.

BRITISH NEWS OUTLETS yesterday widely reported the deaths of two British-born Islamic state militants in a drone strike carried out by the RAF.

On Monday British PM David Cameron confirmed to Parliament that Reyaad Khan and Ruhul Amin had been killed in the attack near Raqqa in Syria on 21 August.

the guardian The Guardian The Guardian

Both men had featured prominently in a recruitment video for Isis in June of last year.

However, some confusion has since arisen about the death of one of the men, with a number of news outlets having reported that Reyaad Khan was killed in July of this year.

the mail The Mail Online The Mail Online

the guardian - 1 The Guardian The Guardian

The reporting of his death by the papers faced criticism on social media for not having shown enough vigilance in reporting the story for the second time.

However, while there had been reports of Khan being killed by an air strike in July, these were not confirmed by UK police or its Foreign Office.

Coverage was based on collated social media reports and local sources that said Khan had been killed by an airstrike alongside two other Britons.

Shiraz Maher, a senior fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College in London tweeted at the time that his organisation was confident that Reyaad Khan had been killed, but that it could not state that categorically.

While covering the story, outlets at the time were careful not to state outright that Khan had been killed, with Guardian journalist Roy Greenslade pointing to the use of qualifiers and single-quotation marks in headlines as evidence of this.

In a statementThe Guardian has stated that, “our original report was couched cautiously to be clear that the claim was not verified by all parties. We have referenced that the original report of Khan’s death was incorrect in the profile we ran today.”

This smells like Minister Michael Lowry’s type of decision making all over again. This certainly should warrant his dismissal.

It’s blindingly obvious what O’Reilly was trying to do! The guy has been caught out doing a Fianna FAILure on it and playing gombeen politics for his own electoral benefit. The man is a disgrace and should have been sacked. It say all you need to know about the current shower in power that they all backed him up, nothing ever changes, the same abuses we saw under the last shower just carry on as usual with this bunch of chancers. Bottom line, they are all as crooked and bent as each other, don’t be surprised if the new children’s hospital isn’t moved to a location in a marginal FG constituency or worse to Mayo!

In response, Gilmore said: “In relation to individual ministers and who they meet and what’s in their diary and when: to be honest, I can’t track, nor do I want to track, the diaries of every minister in this Government and who they met and when they met and so on… nor indeed could I possibly do so.”

Why not? Why isnt it possible for this to be done? In this particular case, surely all the available evidence SHOULD be looked at? And if Gilmore doesnt do it himself, why don’t others, mandated by him, do it on his behalf? Wouldn’t this fall into the category of ‘transparency and accountability’ that he is so fond of banging on about (when he is taking a break from running Ireland and Europe)

What does it change? He said he had no hand in selection of sites. This suggests otherwise. Also, you do know that lobbying NAMA is illegal? And how is it a waste of a question? TD’s can ask as many written questions as they like. You’re not a FG supporter by any chance??
