Lit cigarette blamed for petrol tanker explosion that killed 85 people

The explosion happened in the South Sudanese city of Maridi.

A FUEL TRUCK has exploded in South Sudan killing 85 people, according to government officials.

Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said that 50 others were injured in the blast which took place in Maridi after the truck veered off the road.

Citing the accounts of local authorities, he said the taker was “full of petrol” that started to leak and residents were siphoning off fuel when someone lit a cigarette, sparking an explosion.

Ateny said the injured were taken to local hospitals which are overwhelmed.

While at the trouble free Stone Roses gig last year, we found the long walk from the entrance to Phoenix Park to the actual venue, had no amenities, toilets, stalls etc. Which lead to excessive public urination. Also, what ever way they decided to organise the bar ( leaving, what looked like, 8 bars closed) made getting some alcoholic beverages a mission, an hour and a half to get our first drinks!!? We made the tough decision of not returning to the bar for the rest of the night. More forward thinking and increased amenities wouldn’t go amiss at this venue.

Nail on the head. While there will always be a minority of people losing the run of themselves at gigs the problem is surely worsened by the abject lack of decent facilities.

People end up pre-drinking excessively because of the expensive ordeal that getting drinks at an Irish Festival is, and those who do queue end up buying 4 drinks every time they queue.

There are a lot of unique and great aspects about festivals and gig going in Ireland but the provision of basic facilities is not one of them.

Hipsters hate lively music hence all the negative comments for SHM, by the way SHM are bubblegum pop dance group and there would be a lot more drugs at a prodigy, faithless, stone roses gig!
