THE DUBLIN PORT Tunnel has fully re-opened after it was closed in both directions this morning when a heavy goods vehicle went on fire.
The 5 axle ban on trucks in the city centre has been reinstated after it was temporarily lifted to help ease traffic.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 7am.

A man was taken to the Mater Hospital as a precaution this morning.
Dublin Bus reported that some of its routes were experiencing delays due to the closure:

You’re really an empty head Tommy if you think it’s as easy as just putting out the fire and moving the car.
They have to make sure the safety of the tunnel hasn’t been compromised, they need to vent all the toxic smoke, cool the Tarmac on the road do it doesn’t burst tires as its driven over. These are just a few of the safety checks that are now needed.

They close that tunnel a lot. I used to use the tunnels in and out of New York and if they had them closed every few nights like the Port Tunnel there’d be moider.

The fire is gone out, emergency services there an hour now — Why not open the other side then and get the traffic moving. I’m stuck at it the last half hour. The place it at a stand still. Absolute joke. Will probably be about 2 hours late for work now.
