It was a glorious day out there - but there's still a weather warning in place

Temperatures hit 19.1 degrees in Carlow.

Updated 11.50pm

MANY PARTS OF the country experienced glorious sunshine today as the summer made a late reappearance.

However, a weather warning remains in place.

An orange warning – the second most severe – is in place right across the country.

“Fog will form widely tonight resulting in visibility being reduced to less than 100 metres in many areas,” Met Éireann said.

This is due to remain in place until at least 11am.

The Road Safety Authority’s CEO, Moyagh Murdock, urged caution on the roads.

Heavy fog seriously reduces your visibility and makes driving very dangerous. Our advice is to switch on dipped headlights and fog lamps, reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. If the fog closes in, reduce your speed further and take your time getting to your destination

Train services were also affected today, so bear that in mind for  your morning commute.

Warm and sunny

However, that aside, it was calm, warm and sunny day.

Met Éireann said that the highest temperature recorded today was 19.1 degrees at Oak Park in Carlow.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, with the afternoon and evening being “generally sunny”.

Highest temperatures will be slightly cooler, standing at between 13 to 16 degrees.

Counted several cars yesterday with no lights driving through dense fog. Do they just forget to turn them on or is it a ‘it’s daytime I don’t need them on’ thing? I always think it’s a miserly thing that they refuse to turn the lights on no matter how dull/foggy/wet as it may drain the battery or waste the bulbs.

or they have their fogs on when you can clearly see 10 to 15 cars ahead. I turn off rear fogs as soon as a car come up behind me.

Ireland’s roads are a strange place; how many drivers do we see driving with front fogs on permanently until it actually gets foggy ?

Don’t forget to have your windscreen clear as well…Witnessed a van overtaking and cleaning the side of a parked car out of it this morning then driving off. Didn’t get the reg but a description. Left a note of the windscreen. Gotta be some sort of damage to the van.
