THE INVESTIGATION into the murder of a Belarusian man who was killed over the weekend in Tralee is continuing.
Dmitry Hrynkevich died on Friday after being assaulted in the Killeen Wood area of Tralee.
He had been born in Minsk, Belarus, and spent most of his life growing up between Tralee and Killarney.
At 7 ft 6 in he had been the third tallest man in Ireland.
The 24-year-old was found unconscious in a garden in the town on Wednesday evening at around 10.35pm.
Two men, one in his 30s and the other in his 20s, were initially arrested in connection with suspected assault but later released.
The funeral will take place in the coming days and has been kept private at Hrynkevich’s own request.
Speaking to TheJournal.ie, local Fine Gael councillor Jim Finucane said, “I would have known him to see. He was a very tall young man.
Obviously any violent crime of that nature is a shock to any community. And obviously people are dismayed, and just hoping to find out what the details are and how it happened.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who would have been in the vicinity of Killeen Wood at the time of the incident last Wednesday night to come forward.

Why the focus on his height? The Sunday Worlds headline yesterday ‘Giant Killers’ was shameful.
Norman, absolutely right. But he was a giant, so people took notice, maybe they saw something that they could report.
Fair enough, but for the Editor to think that an unfunny pun is an appropriate way for a violent death to be reported in a national newspaper is beyond me.

You’re making a few assumption there Patrick. “Murdered” and “because he was tall”. The culprits haven’t even been caught yet ,never mind questioned or even charged with anything.

I knew this man personally from time he spent on the streets of Cork. Complete sc@mbag and degenerate. If it wasn’t for his height this wouldn’t be deemed newsworthy, no more so than any other heroin addict. That’s not speculation either, I have witnessed this man shooting up.
