THREE MEN HAVE been arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in Derry this evening over alleged dissident republican activity.
It follows the discovery of what is reported to have been a potential bomb at a road junction on the city’s outskirts. The security alert has caused traffic jams along the border with the Republic.
The three men aged 46, 49 and 56 are being questioned at a police station in Belfast.
Police reported a second suspected bomb in the border town of Newry. It was found at the Derrybeg Lane area on a road running underneath the main Belfast-Dublin motorway and near the town’s train station.
The PSNI are advising motorists to expect delays in the area and to seek alternative main routes for their journey.
This has also caused delays on the Dublin to Belfast train line which has since resumed full service. But services are not stopping in Newry due to the security alert, Translink NI says.
