IRELAND’S VICTORY OVER France was watched by a record-breaking 1.6 million viewers last night.
TV3 recorded an average of 1.15 million viewers, the highest ratings ever achieved by the station.
Figures show that 72% of all adults watching television tuned in to see the game, with viewing figures peaking at 1.42 million during the final minutes of the match.
Overall, 1.69 million tuned in across pre-match, match and post-match analysis of Ireland v France on TV3.
Saturday’s Australia v Wales game also hit high ratings, reaching 797,000 viewers.
To date, TV3 Group’s Rugby World Cup 2015 coverage has reached 3.27 million viewers which is almost 80% of the total potential TV audience.

Ruined the atmosphere as the teams lined up for the anthems by doing an ITV on it and taking an ad break.
‘All the action from Ireland v France coming up next. Don’t go away’.

Like we all want to see a Guinness ad we’ve already seen 5 thousand times a day right now.
Not a fan of TV3 but they are a commercial station and need to milk these events for all they’re worth.It’s not like they’ve a massive income from licences propping them up.
Go easy, the world needed to be reminded Gareth Thomas is gay.
But I thought the multiculters said that the Irish are inbred and need influx of African and Asian genes in order to win any sport?
Ah stop TV3 bashing. These ad breaks are a directive from World Rugby and probably requested by lead broadcaster ITV. TV3 are hardly gunna turn down the advertising cash or would you prefer them to ask for a license fee AND still have adverts?
They happen because they are the most valuable break in a sports programme and being the lead broadcaster, ITV would have taken one so it makes sense for TV3 to do so.
Those ad breaks are what makes it possible for a TV station to air come tent without having to threaten viewers and non-viewers alike with prison if they don’t find if.

I do realise TV3 is a commercial station. But they have an obligation to do the thing justice.

If I see that Guinness add one more time I’ll go mad, we get the point he was gay, and he was brave for coming out but it’s overused.

Excellent production, profound messages but ruined by the insidious association with alcohol consumption.
Wasn’t it ITV a couple of years ago missed a World Cup goal for England because the ad break was running so long.
In fairness they have great adds, even if it does promote alcohol and make Guinness look cool. The Shane Williams add is epic, new Zealand munster one, toulon one, the South African gang one is good too.
Their crap CGI intro makes it look amateurish. Something straight out of the 90s

In the first game tv3 cut off Figi “challenge dance” itv showed it. Same wit national anthems tv3 cut to adds. Rate radio no better they came back to commentary 2 mins into second half last night.

I was listening to Marion Finnucane yesterday and she said she likes to watch the telly but listen to the radio commentary, only dawned on me later she was probably having a dig at tv3
Tv3 survives on ads and does not demand that we pay a tv licence. Tv licence fees go to RTE who still shows ads. If Tv3 can secure the rights for the rugby, what is RTE doing with the money it receives?
I reckon the time that both were bidding on the rights tv3 were loosing Cornation St, Emerdale, X-factor etc to utv ireland and I reckon rte figured tv3 would go bust and then they would get the world cup rights on the cheap.
Ray D’Arcy, Ryan Tubridy and Joe Duffy are what they do with the license fee…. But aren’t they sooooooo worth it?? ….

Huge viewing figures for the game, but i’d say the dropped off a cliff edge when the gane was over and punditry began, appalling stuff with ad breaks every 2/3 minutes.
I don’t blame the pundits too much. They’re not given the time to get their views across or do proper analysis so they end up looking stupid. At one point after the French match, Cooper asked Wood a question. He got about two sentences into it and Cooper cut him off so they could go to another break.
I noticed the sheer amount of ad breaks in the first few games and have since changed to ITV. Far better coverage and analysis.
How are those figures compiled? They sound fantastic. Can they be verified?
They use TAM which uses sampling source. When watching TV, viewers will have to log in with their code. It registers them as a demograph by age or social status. There’s no way to be 100% sure but it’s probably as close as they’ll get.
Matt Cooper has to be the worst rugby presenter ever. so pessimistic even after a classic win and great performance. and who was your one interviewing Schmidt? would it have killed her to congratulate him and ask about the win before banging on for ten minutes about the injuries? I really wish I could watch on RTE
In fairness I prefer to watch him any day over that abortion that was on before, during and after the football over on RTE.After Bill passed away the whole thing should have been revamped.

How much analysis do people want? 45 mins before the game and about an hour afterwards is plenty.
The pre game analysis is all based on predictions. The first half analysis is based on what actually happened on the pitch and is the most important as it sets the scene for the final half. ITV managed the balance between ads and analysis much better.
I’d worry about if Madigan is in the right place mentally after that display of blubbering like a ten year old boy at the final whistle, for the achievement of qualifying out of the group stage. In a million years you would not see an All Black or an Aussie making such a display.
I watched the game with a load of kiwis. They kept on asking who this Madigan guy was, they couldn’t believe how good he was.

He’s a human being. An emotional being. He did his job, saw his parents and combined with the atmosphere inside the Millennium his emotions got the better of him. He’s a bigger man than me if he can show his emotions so openly in front of 80,000 people.
Agree – if anything it shows he has passion – its passion which POC employs in changing room before the game to fire them up.

He’s had a lot of knockbacks in the past two years. That joke of a coach deeming him not good enough to start in a pro 12 game over a journeyman outhalf. He completely bossed the French in a game at the very highest level.

There’s a slight difference between crying after winning the world cup and crying after a bloody group game..it was pathetic and embarrassing, my aussie mate couldn’t believe what he’d seen.

Have refused to watch any of the RWC 2015 on TV3. ITV HD all the way. Much better quality, pretty good panelists and best of all less effin ad breaks!

As Tv3 have decided not to make their channel available in Hd to the Irish public without paying Sky for the privilege, I had to resort to watching it on ITV to get any sort of decent picture
I wonder how those figures match up against the football? No doubt the soccer still captures the nations hearts like no other.

They play on turf imported from Holland.

Not anymore – they installed a hybrid synthetic/natural pitch last year as the imported turf kept cutting up too badly.
They need to show ads alright but they cut to them mid team lineup being showed. Itv are doing the same but much smarter. This is no reflection on tv3 being good at what they do just investing more than anyone else so majority of the country don’t have any choice.
