THE MAN WHO leading conservatives in the United States are calling on to enter the race to be the party’s next candidate for president is said to be giving serious consideration to the idea.
The New York Post reports that New Jersey governor Chris Christie is giving the idea some thought and could make a decision as soon as next week.
Christie’s renewed consideration for a presidential run he has previously ruled out is said to be prompted by urging from senior party figures including the former First Lady Nancy Regan, former secretary of state Henry Kissinger and former president George W Bush.
Earlier this week Christie gave a speech at a Republican Party fundraiser at the Ronald Regan Presidential Library, a location considered to be a must for conservatives who have national ambitions, according to the Washington Post.
It was after that speech, where he was implored by one audience member to enter the race, that behind the scenes discussions about running took on a more serious and “surreal tenor” according to a source quoted in the New York Post, even though Christie publicly maintained his stance that he would not be running.
Christie is popular for taking on unions in the state of New Jersey and balancing the budget.
Earlier this year a poll at Quinnipiac University found that voters had the warmest feelings towards him above every other serving politician in the US.
His brash and combative style has also garnered plenty of attention. This video showing his response to a teacher’s question at a town hall meeting last year has had over one million hits on YouTube:
Previously Christie has been categorical in his stance that he will not be running even saying at one point: “What do I have to do short of suicide to convince people I’m not running?”
Politico even compiled a video of him giving various interviews where he said he would not be running.
However the increasing disillusionment among Republican voters with the current field of candidates is said to be adding to the clamour for Christie to enter the race.
Former Masschussets governor Mitt Romney and Texas governor Rick Perry have been considered the favourites to land the nomination but voters rejected Romney in the 2008 primaries whilst questions have been raised about Perry’s credentials following his performance in two recent primary debates.

The main problem we have is the amount of money being taken out of our economy to service a debt run up by irresponsible banks, both here and abroad. Until that problem is tackled there just isn’t enough money in our economy for real sustained growth for indigenous businesses. I’ve only stayed in business because I did not have huge loans to service and I was able to keep my overheads low. Ive seen plenty of good businesses go under because they can no longer sustain the overheads imposed by landlords & councils that still work on tiger prices.

The banks were less than half the problem. The collapse of govt revenue and inability to cut the servicing of public services quickly to match revenue was just as big a problem
