Northern Irish schoolchildren attacked in Manchester shopping centre car park

The students had suffered a range of injuries, none of which were believed to be serious.

A GROUP OF schoolchildren from Armagh were victims of an “unprovoked” attack on Sunday, Manchester police say.

The group of 14 students from Portadown College suffered physical and verbal abuse in the car park of the Trafford Centre in the English city on Sunday. The students had suffered a range of injuries, none of which were believed to be serious.

Police say that they were called at around 9.15pm and found that the 16 and 17-year-old students, who were on a school trip, had been attacked, and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Inspector Fahar Zaman of the Trafford Division said:

This was an unprovoked attack on some young people who were visiting our city. It is disappointing that the memories they are left with will be of this brutal attack.

“We are working with the Trafford Centre to gather evidence and we are following some positive lines of enquiry to find those responsible.

“We are treating this incident very seriously and are appealing for anyone who was in the area or may have seen anything to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, 0161 856 7655 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

They should be banned from the Trafford Centre for life. I’ve been there and it’s amazing if these are locals that would hurt them a lot. And obviously they should be punished by a court also. Zero tolerance with this kind of thuggery.

Just yesterday the Lonely Planet Guide named Manchester as the 8th most desirable city to visit in the world in 2016.
It clean forgot to say “But not if you’re from Portadown” !
    BTW.
It placed Dublin at No. 3 which proves that the Lonely Planet Guide isn’t worth the paper it’s written on..

Listening to UK radio this morning, the subject of Dublin and hen parties came up. One caller described Dublin as a dark, dirty, depressing place, full of beggars and down and outs and with little of the charm or welcoming attitude she’d been led to expect. Several others echoed this to various degrees. It’s one thing reading glowing reports in the media, it’s another hearing it from actual visitors. DCC, take note.

Walk around central Manchester and it’s nowhere near as bad as central Dublin for junkies etc – In a city of 2.5 million you are going to get the occasional dodgy incidents – its probably the best city outside London in UK for stuff to do

I know Man utd supporter’s who would rather visit Liverpool than Manchester because it has better night life and they feel safer, anyway what’s Liverpool getting teams banned from Europe got to do with teenagers getting attacked in a shopping centre in Manchester, they could have been Wigan supporter’s or city supporters it doesn’t matter who they support, it looks bad for tourism

Amazing a ‘mancunian’ calling out a ‘scouse’ and neither of them (i’m assuming) born in either place.. how strange.

just passing a comment, you don’t have to be a scouse or a Mancunian to say what what’s on your mind, if it happened in Dublin or Cork or Belfast its STILL BAD FOR TOURISM

Get your facts straight. Italian fans on a lower section of the ground were killed and injured when a concrete ( guard rail) wall collapsed onto them. As for the national ban the worst affected club Everton FC (the other Liverpool club) lost their chance to have a shot a Euro Champions Cup. The ban incidentally had nothing to do with football, it happened because Maggie Thatcher the then PM seized the opportunity to stick it to the City of Liverpool, her most hated place and feared place in the UK.
