GARDAÍ ARE ASKING the public for help in solving the case of a bomb that was placed outside the home of a garda in Co Leitrim last year.
The under-vehicle improvised explosive device (UVIED) was discovered at the front door of the garda’s house on the Leitrim side of the border with Co Longford, in the Drumlish area, on Thursday 17 April 2014.
This morning, the Crimestoppers agency is appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them anonymously.
Calling it a “very serious matter”, Detective Inspector James Delaney today said:
This was a viable improvised explosive device and could have resulted in death or serious injury to the residents of the house it was left outside or members of the Drumlish community.
We believe that there are persons out there that have information that would be beneficial to the case.
Perhaps you were aware of suspicious activity in the run up to or on Thursday 17 April last year and thought nothing of it at the time?
Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation.
Gardaí are asking for anyone with information to call them anonymously on 1800-25-00-25.

If you have no idea what the cause is how can you rule out terrorism?
@Walt Jabsco: Because, as I’ve read from other sources, no traces of explosives have been found so far, and the pilot had refused to undergo the deicing procedure, as well as the aircraft maintenance company is under investigation for not following procedure in regards to oil change and air filter replacement.

The Russian prosecutor’s office launched criminal proceedings for suspected violations of air traffic safety rules. They found reports that the airliner had been banned from operating international routes in 2015 and had resumed operation after it changed its policy in 2016. Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Transport (Rostransnadzor) stated that during their examination on the accident aircraft, the airliner had violated the procedure of the oil change in the gearboxes and the washing of the air starter filter.

@Shaun Gallagher: Unfortunately it’s indicative of the world we live in that it must be considered. To dismiss it and refuse to consider it as a possibility smacks of political interference and indicates it may be the real cause.
