Poll: Do you feel safe in your local area during Halloween?

Or is it relatively quiet?

LAST NIGHT WAS a busy night for emergency services in Dublin.

One 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed at flats in the south inner city, while two others are in a critical condition after separate knife attacks.

This is on top of the hundreds of 999 calls received, the almost two hundred fires battled, and the 30 assaults attended.

While it was a quiet night in many other parts of the country, it is a night where anti-social behaviour – be it involving alcohol, fireworks, or bonfires – is common.

We want to know about your experience: Do you feel safe in your local area during Halloween?

Poll Results:

Yes (9787)
No (3053)
I don't know (569)

Hint: avoid greens, forests, lane ways & carparks. whether it be jobstown or Dalkey I wouldn’t go near any groups of teens. my friend doing deliveries last night got fireworks aimed at his car near bushy park, rathfarnham. what class would you put that area?

Vote Left the vast majority of these issues arrise in so called working class areas where parenting is apparently optional and there is a high percentage of single mothers. Firefighters are not being assaulted in Foxrock or Malahide for instance.

Fear, fear, fear….it’s like a commodity these days, its why nearly every top show on t.v. is a crime show, why 90% of news bulletins in America are all about crime, its why they don’t lock up violent criminals and why they keep the drug trade illegal so it’s festers crime gangs and crime waves….this is how our consumer society exists, fear creates unhappy people, unhappy people buy crap, citizens rely on the State to keep them safe and so on and on….You should read up on Edward Bernays and others to know that society is exactly the way it was designed to be.

One example….the wholesale introduction of hard drugs into black neighbourhoods across the United States came soon after the civil rights movement began across America….instead of them taking on the State, they soon began to turn on each other and crime became rampant.

Sad to see that around 20% of respondents to this survey didn’t feel safe in their area this Halloween. As I have said before, the problem / solution here has got absolutely nothing to do with Halloween. The problem lies with the justice system in Ireland. I guarantee you that many of those assaulting firemen / attacking ambulances / stabbing / engaging in dangerous antisocial behaviour are no strangers to the gardai or the courts system.

When you operate a system that turns repeat offenders out into society, they will wreak havoc at every opportunity. For these people, Halloween represents a golden opportunity to hijack a family fun event and to make it misery for their neighbours and community.

I think this poll is relative to where you live. As an example, I live in West Cork where thankfully Halloween is still a fantastic night for children. It is a night to celebrate, not fear. I am also thankfull that our teenagers are more preoccupied with making sure the little kids have a great night and are not out stabbing and drinking.

I was thinking the same. I live in rural Offaly where Halloween basically doesnt exist. Havent had one trick-or-treater in 8 years. However, when I lived in Dublin as a kid it was a different situation. You did have to be more careful and there were dangers that dont exist in the country, and maybe people there don’t feel safe now. It does depend on your area.
