ONE OF THE biggest signs that Christmas has arrived is the appearance of the Starbucks red cups.
But the rollout of year’s version of the cup has led to some controversy – after the coffee giant removed all ‘symbols of the season’ in favour of a simpler design…
The vice president of design and content for the company, Jeffrey Fields, said of the change:
In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs. This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.
A conservative MP in Britain, David Burrowes, said “the Starbucks coffee cup change smells more of political correctness than a consumer-led change”, while the Christian Institute said
What is it about Christmas that Starbucks are afraid of celebrating? They should get involved and stop being scrooges.
Some people said they would boycott the shop, while others began telling baristas their name was Merry Christmas so they had to write it on the cup.
Well DONE Starbucks, you’ve ruined it all.

Funny thing is , they never had Christmas designs in their cups but snowflakes, mittens and other winter themes.
Yes they did have Christmas designs, they expressly wished people a merry Christmas.

The temptation is to tell these people to get a life, but in fairness, if I was paying seven or eight euros for my vent-cappa-skinny-nutmet-something, I’d expect an input into the cup design process, and maybe a couple of hundred preference shares or something.

People are always complaining about too many stories of death and destruction, but when something a bit more lighthearted is published, the same people complain that “it’s not real news”. Make up your mind.
Well since ya brought it up. Coffee chains melt my head. I drink coffee that’s it. Plain old coffee. You go into one of these places and ask for a coffee they look at you as if you have 10 heads. Surely, it is not a stretch of ones mental capabilities to deduce that when a person in Ireland asks for a coffee it is the now called Americano they are looking for and not one of the other concoctions that are being plied. Then when you are finished squinting at the menu that is 10ft behind the counter and another 10ft above eye level to see what they are calling coffee these days. The they ask you what size you want. Then they serve you your coffee in a boat with a handle you can’t get your fingers into. I JUST WANT A MUG OF COFFEE. Is it that hard?
But it’s not just a coffee Carina.
It’s an experience.
So stay home and make it yourself…. Save your self a bit of cash too.
The rest of the world is as irritated with you waiting until you get to the front of the line and having to squint at the menu for 5 mins and have every item explained to you.

I am a Christian but not practicing. The press are so quick to take aim at Christians . However they are not brave enough to do the same for followers of Islam .

They call it the holiday season because it covers a number of holidays fairly close together, not just Christmas. There’s also Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. There’s some other public holidays on national and state level over the period too.

I couldn’t care less since I’m not religious, but all this commotion is for that one day on the 25th December, its legal name is Christmas Day, and its a public holiday. It’s not called Holiday Day or something else. In the name of freedom of expression, everyone else including me should stop moaning and accept that its Merry Christmas, legally it is.
It’s called whatever we want to call it. The law doesn’t need to step in and control how we greet each other.
