Vincent Browne thinks these two TDs are just like Podge and Rodge

Séamus Healy and Mattie McGrath really went at it on the latest People’s Debate.

Video TheJournal.ie / YouTube

THE USUAL RUCTIONS broke out during the latest Vincent Browne’s The People’s Debate which had been filmed in Tipperary.

This time it was a row between local TDs Séamus Healy from Workers and Unemployed Action and independent TD Mattie McGrath.

McGrath, who is a former member of Fianna Fáil, accused Healy of being “anti-everything” while Healy heckled him so much that he had to be told to “leave him alone” by the TV3 presenter.

“He hasn’t voted for one thing in this town in Clonmel ever in his life!” McGrath shouted.

“I worked for 30 years for this town and I’m well respected and trusted, trusted in this town,” Healy hit back.

As they continued to talk over one another, Browne addressed the audience:

They look like Podge and Rodge, don’t they?

Can’t say we see the resemblance…

Watch the debate in full tonight on TV3.

Browne on Adams: “He was by far the most important person in the IRA from 1980 onwards.”>

The same down in Wexford last week and countless other times over the months. They don’t want to face their electorate and answer real, hard, tough questions from the presenter and audience but expect to be voted back in? Cowards.

If anything these Peoples Debates are showing FG/Lab up for what they are. Not bothering to turn up has become a consistent pattern with Lab. FG people waffle and spoof on the level of your average 5yr old caught being naughty and trying to lie their way out. Same with FF. I not sure what will happen at the next election, but some things are becoming obvious for all to see, regardless of political affiliations. 1: SF will double their numbers easily. 2: Labour wipeout. 3: Independents look set to be the Dails new superpower grouping- there will be 35 to 50 of them. 4: FF will make modest gains, but nothing significant. 5: FG will lose seats, but they have used Labour to protect themselves from wipeout on FF. Last GE results. 6: THere will be a clearout of the old faces/names and a massive intake of fresh blood. 7: Politics in Ireland will be experiencing seismic shift in the Traditional Politics of the last 100 years

Powerabbey… This current government also have some serious hurdles to overcome. 1: they are known, proven and repeated liars. 2: they have suffered a serious credibility issue last week with welcoming a dissident republican into their ranks with open arms after years of using the “dissident republican links” stick to beat SF. 3: people deciding who to vote for generally factor in much more than just the economy- crime, hospitals, social conditions (all in disarray), trustworthyNess of the government (virtually zero) 4: party affiliation votes are something that’s dying out broadly.

Powerabbey… I never said who is forming the next government. I commented on inevitable results based on public opinion. But I do love your dogged determination to hold onto that now dead worldwide belief of “no viable alternatives” and TINA scripture they preach. We will see Powerabbey. We will see. I haven’t ruled out a hung Dail and another election either, it’s a possibility too. But Labour won’t get enough seats. It is anyone’s game right now. And people who never voted before are registering, and the Elderly (Grey vote) have been SERIOUSLY badly treated over the last 5years. The world-classand Ireland- are collectively sick of same-old same-old politics.

Mattie McGrath was loathe to tell VB why he left FF. He rambled a bit…mentioned that John Gormley didn’t like hare coursing which was such a vital part of our culture (according to Mattie) and then rambled a bit more. In fact Mattie lost the FF party whip by voting against the Bill to ban stag hunting in 2010. Coursing didn’t enter it though the Green Party was very much opposed, rightly, to the cruel so-called “sport”.
