The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY evening, TheJournal.ie brings you the five things you really should know before you head out the door…

1. #RACE FOR THE ÁRAS: Fine Gael presidential candidate Gay Mitchell has said he would sign any bill presented to him as president – as long as he felt it was not in conflict with the Constitution. His comments came as he was questioned about his attitude to gay people, with Mitchell saying: “I am a person who doesn’t judge anybody.”

2. #ARRESTS: Four more people have been arrested over the murder of teacher and publican John Kenny, who was found dead in his Oughterard, Co Galway pub a week ago. The four, all men, are currently being questioned by gardaí after Romanian national Florin Fitzpatrick was charged with withholding information on Sunday.

3. #TERESA TREACY: More than a hundred people protested at ESB offices on St Stephen’s Green in Dublin today against the continued imprisonment of Teresa Treacy. Ms Treacy was jailed two weeks ago for refusing to obey a court order allowing the ESB and Eirgrid on to her land near Tullamore to construct overhead power lines.

4. #COURTS: Embattled Quinn Insurance will require around €738million from a State compensation fund in order to continue operation, administrators told the High Court today. Lawyers said the company was mindful of the burden it was placing on the taxpayer, but insisted the cost of winding it down would be far higher.

5. #THE SIMPSONS: Could this be the end of Springfield’s foremost family? A pay dispute could put an end to The Simpsons at the end of its current season – the 23rd of its marathon run – with reports suggesting that actors playing Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and many others are aggrieved at pressure to take a 45 per cent pay cut.

With so many parents looking to adopt. I wonder if these children would be better if they were removed earlier and adopted. I worked in a drug addled part of the city for a long time. These kids have no childhood and no future.

This quicker route to adoption has come into place in the uk. To be honest, while it may sound great, you must remember that the legal rights of the natural parents being removed permanently and irreversibly is a big deal. To do this in a very quick fashion could lead to huge issues.

If you seen the amount of strung out parents with kids in their prams in town I think you would have a different view.

I don’t think so. Many of these kids are placed with family members, which gives the parents a chance to maybe clean up their act and stay close to their kids. I think in a lot of cases earlier adoptions would mean the parents would have no reason to get clean.

What’s ‘severe heroin addiction’? Are you ok with mild or occasional heroin use?

Joe lets say your on methadone your addicted to heroin and some pen pusher decides to take the only decent thing in your life away. Methadone is far worse than recreational drugs. Severe heroin addiction is shooting up pure heroin

Poor kids do not have a chance or a childhood when you see the role models they have. They unknown to themselves are tomorrow’s criminals. More attention and resources are given to having a TV and Dog Licence !
