Harry Potter fans will love this little bit of magic that happened in Heuston yesterday

All aboard the Hogwarts Express!

ADMIT IT.

Your days of reading Harry Potter may be behind you, but you still fantasise about receiving an acceptance letter from Hogwarts and boarding a train at Platform 9 3/4.

So imagine the surprise of some Irish Rail passengers yesterday when they saw this on the departures board.

CUrhfAsWoAANZ-s BooRadAllie / Twitter BooRadAllie / Twitter / Twitter

It couldn’t be… surely?

Be still our beating hearts.

What is this sorcery, you ask?

It was all part of an event organised by Trinity Ents, which saw students board the Hogwarts Express dressed as witches and wizards  to be whisked off to a top secret location.

Bravo, everyone.

@Locutus Of Borg: off you go in the next election then. Most politicians are working every day and evening dealing with queries from their constituents and many of them contact their elected representatives at strange hours. For most politicians there is little holidays. Just because they are not sitting in the Dail chambers does not mean they are on holidays. Still people love to have something to grumble about but if you want the job there will be lots at the next election and all you need is about 6000 votes.

@Niall Ó Cofaigh: 60,000 votes eh , so that rules out most of the current Government . Leo the leak got in on 8,000 and odd after 5 counts , Martin had 11,000 and odd after multiple counts , 10 to 12 thousand votes pretty much guarantees election to Dáil Éireann .

@John Johnes: politicians are elected to represent their constituents. They are representative of the constituents, as in they don’t know everything on all matters of policy, the same way you don’t. The advisors provide informed information on their areas of policy and then the elected representative makes a decision based on the will of the people or the mandate they were elected to represent (or the will of the party whip, but that’s for another gripe). Anyway I hope I got my point across regardless. Stay safe.

Passes may become redundant in due course if this settles down but it would be an EU decision anyway as regards travel. There’s no discrimination of course, it’s all about protecting yourself and others. If you pose a higher risk of transmitting to others then you can expect to be restricted. Just common sense.

@GrumpyAulFella: I’d like to see some solid evidence that the unvaccinated are spreading omicron at a higher rate than the vaccinated. So far omicron seems to be rampant across the population – regardless of vaccination status – and thankfully has a much lower mortality rate than previous variants (in other words, perhaps it could be just the thing to bring us up to a level of herd immunity that would make all covid restrictions unnecessary). But if we’re serious about making viral load the key factor in societal participation, then why not ‘restrict’ the obese (who can carry up to 4x the viral load of people at a healthy weight), or the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems? What’s next in this utopia? Will smokers and drinkers be refused access to the cinema because of the burden they’re placing on the health system? Will paramedics be encouraged to abandon injured cyclists if they weren’t wearing a helmet?
