THE NEW YORK Daily News has been running a series of front pages targeting the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) in the wake of more mass shootings in the US.
Today the paper may have outdone itself with this effort:

On Saturday, the New York Times used its front page to call for tighter gun control. It was the first time the newspaper used its front page for an editorial since 1920.
Last Wednesday husband and wife Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik used assault rifles and semi-automatic handguns to kill 14 people and injure 21 others at a centre for people with disabilities in San Bernardino, California.
One mass shooting a day
More than one mass shooting (class as an incident which results in four or more people being wounded or killed) occurs each day in the US.
The New York Times notes that, including the shooting in San Bernardino, a total of 462 people have died and 1,314 have been wounded in such attacks this year.
The NRA spends tens of billions each year lobbying politicians against gun control measures.

the gun control debate in the states is polarised.
its amazing that most of these mass shootings happen in gun free zones.
outlaws by definition do not care about gun control laws, if a law were introduced that would stop civilians owning guns the outlaws who would not care about still laws would still have them.
in that situation i would sure want one to protect myself.

This is getting ridiculous. Most shootings in the US are by illegally held firearms anyway. People’s attitude towards this reminds me of the film Demolition Man.
Look at the UK. They outlawed guns in the 90s and they have a stabbing on average every ten minutes or something. Now they’re outlawing knives. How about just, you got a mental illness, you can’t have a gun. Most of the people who do the crazy stuff with legally held weapons have a history of mental illness. If you haven’t lived in the US and heard of the type of crimes that can happen, don’t be so quick to say people shouldn’t be allowed to have the means to defend themselves.
Also the political and police response to San Bernardino and the media coverage leave a lot of questions.

People want quick and easy solutions so they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Nobody wants to look into the facts.
I posted yesterday cold hard facts which showed that 7 out of 10 people killed in America by firearms are gangbangers in drug or gangland crime. Banning weapons won’t stop this.
Of the remainder, the majority are suicides using firearms.
And Jason the majority of school shootings happen in the USA, as do the majority of work related mass shootings by disgruntled employees, as do the majority of family massacres by estranged spouses, as do the majority of accidental shootings because of careless legal gun owners happen in good old US of A.
I wonder why that is, would it be because the country insanely has just as many guns as people?.
Anyone with an ounce of savvy can see right through the NRA’s archaic 2nd amendment bluster when we all know the real reason for their pro gun stance is money, the gun industry in America is huge business, but of course many Neanderthal brainwashed rednecks swallow it all hook line and sinker.
How many of these mass shootings did those innocently slaughtered have the chance to use their own guns for their own protection? After all, isn’t that the point of the lax controls? Doesn’t look like guns really offer that much protection to me. As we saw in London a few days ago, it is much harder for a Jihadi nut job to cause mass killings with a knife than it is a gun. Time for common sense to prevail America.
