South Korean family charged with murder over brutal hotel exorcism

A 41-year-old woman was “severely” beaten, allegedly by a group including her own son.

GERMAN POLICE HAVE arrested five South Korean family members suspected of beating to death a 41-year-old woman in an exorcism ritual performed in a hotel room, prosecutors said.

The relatives allegedly believed the woman, also South Korean, was “possessed by demons” and tied her to a bed, gagged and severely beat her for two hours, with the goal of “driving out the devil”, the prosecutors said.

“I have never seen anything like it,” said chief prosecutor Nadja Niesen of the western city of Frankfurt.

Police arrested on murder charges a 44-year-old woman, her 21-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter as well as two boys aged 15, one of whom was the victim’s son.

The suspects had used “severe violence” against the woman, beating her chest and stomach while gagging her with a towel and then a cloth-covered coat hanger.

National news agency DPA reported the five were South Koreans of unknown religious affiliation who had arrived in the city around six weeks earlier.

The body was found Saturday in a room in what local media identified as the Intercontinental Hotel, where the five suspects were arrested over the attack, which investigators said was driven by “unfeeling and pitiless” sentiment.

The cause of death was “suffocation due to massive chest compression and trauma to the neck”.

The investigation led police to discover a second suspected victim, a badly injured female relative suffering hypothermia and dehydration, in the garage of a house the group had rented in the town of Sulzbach.

Oh FFS so any time a foreigner does anything bad it’s because of multiculturalism. Not as if any German or Irish person have ever done bad things…

Ross..it’s not for me to blame anyone but the article clearly states they were south Koreans and while no actual religion is specified the use of the word exorcism suggests a Christian motivation…

And somehow you imply that this happened because of Germany’s multiculturalism? As if a German Christian couldn’t have done the same?

Ross..Germany’s multiculturalism was officially declared a failure by Angela Merkel 5 years ago…..that’s the point of my comment…and as for German Christians…yeah I believe some of them have done much worse than these south Koreans..

Ross, Exorcism does exist in Islam! This could have been a Christian or an Islamic exorcism…

so now the South Korean Muslims are out to get us, Bingo? Exorcism exists in several religions, including many African ones, what is your point?

Rashers, My point to Ross was that assuming the exorcism was Christian was jumping the gun a bit because exorcism exists in Islam as well. I merely mentioned Islam, because I knew that it existed in Islam, and wasn’t bothered looking up what other religions it did and did not exist in. In truth I would think it is far more likely that it was a Christian exorcism – religious demographics. It was clearly not a terrorist attack (whether Christian or Muslim or other) and I made no reference to this incident being a terrorist attack or a specifically Muslim issue.

their actions do not represent a Christian belief. there are exorcisms happening but these are rare and only performed when psychiatric and medical causes are outruled. only then is the case referred to the church where it is then examined and dealt with by trained exorcist priests by permission of the bishop. or pope. an exorcism does not involve physically beating the person up. seriously i thought even the atheists would recognise that this has nothing to do with the Christian belief. where has anyone ever seen or heard that an exorcism ritual involves beating the person to death. a new low if you think you can try to use this story to mock Christians.
