Two youths arrested over Cork assault on pregnant woman

The young woman was punched in the face while walking down the street.

TWO YOUNG MEN have been arrested over an assault on a pregnant woman in Cork last month.

The incident occurred on Princes Street in Cork city on the evening of 29 November. The 25-year-old woman, who is six months pregnant, was approached by three males and punched in the face by one of them.

They ran off and the woman was offered medical assistance at the scene. Today a garda spokesperson said two males in their late teens were arrested in connection with the incident on 10 and 11 of December.

They were questioned at Bridewell garda station and later released without charge. Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call gardaí on 021 452 2000, to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or to contact any garda station.

Years ago if this had happened a couple of burly Gardai would roll up their sleeves and bounce these lads off walls (the accused fell down seven flights of stairs twice your honor). They would then be sent off by said honor to some hellhole run by the Christian Brothers who made the Gardai look like pussies. I know it was overused and caused problems but it also caused solutions to this type of thug so prevalent today and to whom we have no answer.
Our society has gone soft, our Gardai castrated and our institutions toothless. We are victims of overlibrilisation where all rights reside with the feral thugs. We need to revisit some old school methods.

Bang on David it doesn’t matter how long a sentence they are given, our prisons are holiday camps where thugs socialise and meet other like minded thugs and find out their rights so that they can make sure when they get out of prison they are financially able to afford the daily cans, chipper and live rent free, just in case the next robbery doesn’t go their way the poor devils.

Something similar happened me just over 7 years ago on St. Stephen’s Green. As I left a restaurant to return to my car a guy kicked the back of leg and knocked me to the ground. I was 7 months pregnant. It happened at a taxi rank and not one person came to my assistance. So it doesn’t surprise me when I hear things like this because there’s something seriously wrong with our society.

In the seconds after it happened that was one of the things that scared me the most, I was left wondering what else was going to happen and realised that I was completly on my own to deal with it. In the end out of shock and terror I lost it and started shouting and screaming and the guy ran off – a coward preying on on an easy target.

    Here’s a witness report http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/gardai-hunt-for-three-youths-after-alleged-assault-on-pregnant-woman-in-cork-709061.html

“Derek said: “I was walking over Nano Nagle Bridge at about 7pm last night and I passed three young fellas, clearly drunk, hammered I think to be honest.
“I was walking down South Mall, I was on the left hand side of the street, they were on the right, and next thing I heard a slap and this woman was holding her face.
“I suppose I was a bit shocked, I stopped her and asked her ‘did he just hit you?’ You don’t expect these things to happen, but I shouted down the road as they were trying to run away.”

Wonderful to know that I live in a society with “youths” that are so disrespectful and lacking in self control that they simply cannot resist hitting a pregnant lady – and in public. Is nothing sacred anymore???

Stacey there is a real lack of respect evident in some youths today. I was walking to college the other evening and passed a group of four lads about 15 years old I’d guess. Passed them without incident, but got a bit further up the road and felt a hard thump on my upper back above my bag. Got a fright and looked around. They were down the road laughing their asses off. Turned out one of them had thrown a potato at me. They thought it was hilarious. Not far from my head either. I didn’t so anything as being a female on my own I felt a bit intimidated and didn’t want to phone the gardai as I felt it would be a waste of their resources. But the thought of these lads doing this again to others really annoyed and frustrated me. Big lads throwing stuff at passing women. Where do they draw the line with their behaviour? Is there even a line to be crossed in their minds? Or is anything they consider amusing fair game. If it’s amusing to whack a girl with a potato is it also amusing to throw a punch? This article would suggest it is to some of them.

That sounds awful. I did call the gardai (but spent most of the time apologising cause I felt that I was wasting their time ). Even calling them (for me ) helped me to feel less like a victim. The gardai who came were very kind and reassured me that I did the right thing to call. One of them reminded me that however hard it might be to get them, there was no chance if they didn’t know about what happened. Hope you are feeling better and have a lovely Christmas.

Thanks Anastasia, If I was in your situation I also would have called the Gardaí, that’s a disgusting thing they did. I wonder how anybody can grow up thinking that is acceptable behaviour. I hope the guards found the guys who did that to you. Thanks for your well wishes and I hope you also have a lovely Christmas/New Year.
