Dublin's Spire was lit up like a lightsaber for Star Wars last night

*zhhhum* *zhhhuuum*

Updated at 2pm

THE FORCE WAS WELL and truly with Dublin last night as the Spire on O’Connell Street lit up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The City Council confirmed yesterday that the landmark would be transformed into a giant lightsaber ahead of the film’s release tomorrow.

There was no word on whether it would be lit up or not… But last night, Dubliners were treated to this sight:

Pretty majestic, huh? Just look at that beam, which looks to have shot up more than twice the height of the Spire:

Perhaps it should look like this all year round? Just a suggestion…

They say no one noticed. I think that’s crap. I messaged DCC twice and there’s no way I was the only one.

The new one cost €10,000 which is pennies for DCC. Considering it’s one of the most visible landmarks in the city they should have repaired it correctly, not done it on the cheap.
