Here's the song a homeless charity hopes will be Christmas number one

This time of year can be particularly difficult for people on the streets.

A CHARITY SINGLE has been released to raise funds for Inner City Helping Homeless, an organisation that helps homeless people in Dublin.

Proceeds from You Know It’s Christmas will be split between ICHH and the Lions Club Christmas Appeal in Baltinglass.

Singer-songwriter Mark Caplice is from the Wicklow town, and said he wanted to help charities close to his heart. He performs under the stage name Kolumbus.

“I have seen the work put in by these charities and it’s incredible. Anthony Flynn (the director of ICHH), is on the streets at 4am supporting and helping those who haven’t even got a roof over their head.”

When we, the fortunate people, run from the house to the car and feel the cold around Christmas we tend to forget about those sleeping in the terrible winter weather … It breaks my heart.

West Wicklow Voices also feature on the track.

ICHH has described the single as “magical” and “may just be a last minute contender for a Christmas number one”.

A spokesperson for the charity said:

The spirit of Christmas has been captured both through the lyrics and video … We are asking all our supporters to get behind the single.

They added that the difficulties faced by homeless people are highlighted at Christmas in particular. ICHH has been collecting shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts for homeless people in recent weeks.

You can buy the single for 99 cent here.

Forgotten Dublin

The Dublin Simon Community is asking people to turn off their Christmas lights from 8-9pm on 21 December as a mark of solidarity with homeless people.

Meanwhile, a supporter of the Dublin Simon Community, Stewart Lambert, has also made a video asking people to support those who are homeless if they can.

Same basic plotline of Brave New World. I’ll probably read it.
