Galway community rallies together after tragic death of boy (8) in farm accident

The youngster has been named as Mark Fordham.

THE SCHOOL OF an eight-year-old boy who died in a farming accident in Galway say they will be providing counselling to students and parents.

The young boy has been named as Mark Fordham, a second class student at Kiltiernan National School.

The child died yesterday morning following a farming accident in Kilcolgan. Gardaí say the boy was rushed to University Hospital Galway and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Acting principal of the boy’s school Bríd Fenlon has described what happened as a “terrible tragedy”, saying that staff and students as well as the wider local community are “deeply saddened” by what happened.

Our sympathy and thoughts are with Mark’s family and friends. Mark will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to have known him. We have been in contact with Mark’s parents who have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this time.

The school says that psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service are supporting and advising staff, adding that the school will be open tomorrow and on Tuesday to help pupils and parents deal with the tragedy.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) will carry out an investigation into the boy’s death.

Hi Kerrie. You have blossomed into a beautiful young woman. Delighted to see you after such a long time and am delighted to say I knew you when you were a young girl. You are an inspiration and I always told your Mam and dad that you were a very special person. Seeing you now on screen confirms what I always believed. Keep the heart up. You ARE a wonderful person. The world is your oyster. xx Bernie
