THE BABY JESUS statue from a crib outside a church in Arklow, Co Wicklow has been stolen.
Fr Martin Cosgrove, parish priest of the Church of Saints Mary and Peter, described the incident as “mindless activity”.
“I wouldn’t say there was any theological significance to the theft … you could only speculate as to why they did it.”
The statue, believed to have been stolen late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning, was later found broken elsewhere in the town.

Cosgrove told TheJournal.ie the crib has been on public display every Christmas for about seven or eight years, and the incident won’t put the parish off from continuing the tradition.
“It’s very visible as people pass by, that’s the intention.”
He said the statue will be replaced as soon as possible – probably today or tomorrow.

@Mark McAuley: sure yes – the retirement homes and nursing homes are open again since the 1st October I believe. At least we had the compassion to open ours sooner. Flights from outside the EU still banned until after 31st October. Social distancing requirements. Masks recommended at the airports. Work from home where possible, isolate if any symptoms. reduced public transport and limits on numbers allowed – Life in Sweden is actually quite like here as we both have recommendations … one can read the official government visitor information here…
I am in the algarve now, and you couldn’t get a safer place to be , social distancing, face masks in inclosed places , beautiful weather so outside dining possible. I walked a beach this morning, had a swim and met nobody, and not on a green list

WTH! Based on what? These people in the power are lost. They don’t know what to do neither specialists and yet, at the end, they’ll say that they were able to save lives. Again, based on what? People need jobs, we need to pay our bills.
What about my family holiday to Liechtenstein? For weeks we’ve been looking forward to visiting landmarks like the Kunstmuseum and the Cathedral of St. Florin :(

Presumably only essential flights will be permitted to land at any of our airports? No point of any lockdown measures if we allow everyone and anyone arrive.
@Brian Lilly: it’s only advice. No law to back it up. We are free to go anywhere. When we come back we are asked to quarantine for 2 weeks, which most people hopefully do.

Just announced 5 Greek islands removed from quarantine list in Uk and N Ireland. What hope do we have with this crap going on. Yet they blame the pubs. I have never seen so many N Ireland reg plates and I live in cork . Was in Dublin 3 weeks ago and that was worse
@Murph11: my mother in Belfast won’t go into the city centre because of all the southern tourists queuing up to get on tour buses and pedal pubs. She practically had to beat some cork people with her umbrella because they tried to sit beside her on a bench.

The airports will have to close while there are no countries on Ireland’s green list, won’t they? Because there’s no point in letting people in when you won’t let people out.
But how many countries can people from Ireland visit without isolating for 14 days?
So, are people coming from Northern Ireland required to self-isolate for two weeks?
