THE FOUNDER OF a controversial dating website that caters to white people has denied he is racist.
Sam Russell has recently come under fire for Where White People Meet, a new online dating service.
Russell told the Washington Post the site is “about equal opportunity”.
“The last thing in the world I am is racist. I dated a black woman once. I helped raise a young black man … I just believe it’s hypocrisy to say ‘one group can do this, but another can’t’.”
Russell is new to the online dating industry, having previously worked in car sales.
After coming in for some criticism, the site said it is an alternative to Black People Meet and people of all races can join.

An early version of the site has been online since August but a billboard was unveiled in Salt Lake City, Utah last week.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that only straight searches can be carried out on the site.

The website’s blurb reads:
I am sure some of you are wondering about the concept and need for a dating website titled “Where White People Meet.Com”. Our answer to that would be why not? There are various dating websites that promote and cater to just about every origin, race, religion and lifestyle out there. So again, why not “Where White People Meet.Com”?
The question naturally arises, can anyone join? That answer is yes, as long as you are at least 18 years of age and you agree to abide by the rules and regulations set forth for all members to follow. We want our dating forum to be simple and inexpensive with the ability to connect like minded people in a non discriminatory fashion.
