THERE WAS NO winner of last night’s €12.5 million lottery jackpot.
The prize pot will now rollover to Saturday when it is expected to top more than €13 million.
The bumper sum comes off the back of more than two months of rollovers. The last time somebody scooped the top prize was 18 November last year.
Technical error
Yesterday’s fault saw the National Lottery’s website and machines being taken out of service for around two hours with sales resuming at 12.45pm.
In February last year a technical problem caused the draw to be postponed for 24 hours, after machines stopped working.
A new system had been implemented in an effort to prevent this from happening again.
What happened?
In a statement last night, the National Lottery explained that the outages had been the result of Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS).
This type of cyberattack works by affecting communications connectivity across the network.
Last night’s numbers were 3, 6, 17, 23, 27 and 29 with the bonus ball being 5.

Played the lotto once in my life as my kids begged me to.
We won 5 Euro.
We framed the 5 Euro but vowed never to play again.
Ok.
Somebody will win but it most likely will not be you.

Complete B@££ :-) X from this new shower. They ran out of excuses and thought, hey, let’s blame it on hacker’s. I Won another €3 Euro scratch card and couldn’t contain myself with the excitement. A complete scam since the new shower took over, prize values plummeted, roll overs mysteriously common and no additional funds toward jackpots on occasions such as bank holidays like there used to be. I love to know how much is actually being given to worthwhile causes since this greedy shower took over. Something smells to high heaven and it’s astonishing no one who is supposed to be in charge of oversight is asking serious questions.

How much goes to various Government departments? This Country is seriously lacking decent investigation journalists. I’m sure it wouldn’t take much digging to see some dodgy deal was done and for a cut of the profits the Government would stay quiet while this new shower rip us off..
There’s nothing mysterious about it, the new disimproved prize structure, was flagged months in advance.
Of course it rolls-over longer now, the odds of winning have been seriously decreased.

Looking at the amount of winners after each draw it’s very noticeable that there seems to be far less of the smaller prize winners too.
And to think Brendan Howlin spent €550,000 of public money in setting up a quango to oversee the sale of the lottery and performance of the operator. Thanks Labour!
They made €405 million from that sale and would have paid €6.07 million at the standard commission of 1.5% if they used an agent. The “Quango” cost of €0.550 million saved ten times that amount so what’s your point!

The performance of the operator is questionable at best and this quango bears all hallmarks of being toothless.

Was it the decision of one the owners/shareholders of the Irish lottery, the Ontario teachers pension plan to increase the number of balls to be drawn leading to an exponential rise in the combinations of numbers leading to less jackpot wins and more hype about rollovers ?

Got three numbers in an extra draw and won … nothing ! What a rip off.Someone got 5 and the bonus and won a measly €120,000 … The new lottery are racking it in but not disbursing fairly.
How many times has the lotto plus jackpots been won in the last year? And the jackpot does not increase when there not won where does this money go?

I always thought that a DDoS attack was an attempt to make an online service unusable/unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic….So this wasn’t an attack as such was it? The lotto became a victim of it’s own success and it’s servers couldn’t handle the traffic.
Well DDos attacks would explain the website crashing, which also wasn’t working last night when I tried it around 7, but how does that spread to their own machines? Surely they are on a closed network. It’s all a big joke since it changed hands which is odd cos aren’t an post still involved? So the same infrastructure which was working pre-sale should be working now. Also wasn’t the lotto always privatised? It was just that an post had the license I thought. Because didn’t camelot and Virgin try to get in on the act the last time the license came up before this sale?
Boards.ie os being DDoS’d all week, maybe they’re doing the lottery website, too. CloudFlare ain’t doing its job!
Mississippians by droves participated, through other state lotteries, in the $1.6 billion Powerball lottery that was won recently, but the state of Mississippi did not participate.
Mississippi is one of six states that does not conduct a lottery. The others are Alabama, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii and Alaska.
