Commuting liveblog: Crashes, breakdowns and heavy traffic - here's how the morning commute is looking

Here’s all the traffic, transport and weather news you need this morning.

IT’S FRIDAY, IT’S the end of the week, and you’ve made it. Welcome to TheJournal.ie’s commuting liveblog for this morning.

We’ll be with you until 9am, bringing you all the latest traffic, transport and weather news.

A coach is on fire on College Green. It’s blocking traffic heading towards Westmoreland St.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

Gardaí are at the scene and diversions are in place.

Dublin Bus has stated that all inbound routes have been diverted from northbound to Lord Edward St. and down Winetavern Street to the North Quays to normal route.

In weather news, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for today:

A crash on the M1 northbound just after the Port Tunnel is blocking the right and middle lanes.

If it’s safe to do so, let us know how the roads are where you are. You can tweet us @thejournal_ie, leave a comment below or send me an email at cliodhna@thejournal.ie

AA Roadwatch is warning that it’s a wet start to the morning across the country with very wet conditions in Kilkenny and Galway City as well as the towns of Carlow and Wicklow.

Motorists are being advised to increase braking distance and be mindful of excess surface water on local routes.

Following the crash on the M1, traffic is now down to one lane northbound between the Port Tunnel and the M1/M50 Interchange.

Gardaí are warning of delays and advising motorists to be extra cautious.

A Luas tram on the red line has crashed with a car just before Heuston Station.

The Luas Red Line (The Point/Connolly to Tallaght/Saggart) is delayed at the moment due to the crash at Heuston.

Meanwhile, the crash on the M1 northbound after the Port Tunnel has been moved to the hard shoulder.

Luas has now confirmed that it’s back running at full service and the incident with a red line Luas tram before Heuston station has been cleared.

LiveDrive is reporting another incident on the M1.

It says there has been a breakdown on the approach to the airport roundabout coming from the M1.

In Westmeath, AA Roadwatch is warning of debris on the M4 Sligo/ Dublin Road eastbound between J15 Mullingar East and J13 Correllstown in the left lane.

A car has broken down on the slip road from Wyckham Way to Dundrum Bypass. Live Drive reports that it’s in a dangerous position.

It’s also reporting that traffic is very heavy on the North Quays.

AA Roadwatch is reporting that the car on Wyckham Way heading towards Dundrum has been abandoned.

A broken down coach is still blocking traffic on College Green heading towards Westmoreland St.

Dublin City Council has confirmed that traffic can’t pass and motorists are being advised to use a different route.

In Cork, traffic is busy approaching the Dunkettle Interchange on the N8 Dublin Road and on the N40 South Ring Road from J10 Mahon.

AA Roadwatch says there are some inbound delays on the Lower Glanmire Road past the Tivoli Flyover and that it’s busy eastbound on the N28 Ringaskiddy Road approaching Shanbally Cross.

There are westbound delays on the Rochestown Road from Thornbury to Clarke’s Hill and it’s also busy northbound on Albert St.

While there are northbound delays on Patrick St through to MacCurtain St. It also added that it’s busy inbound on Summerhill North and there are delays both ways over Christy Ring Bridge and on Lavitt’s Quay.

That’s it for this morning.

We’ll see you back here bright and early on Monday, have a great weekend.

While Dublin has some brilliant People living in it and is very pretty it has turned into a dump.. The City Centre is full of junkies, drunks and gangs of young lads running riot. Beatings and stabbings are nearly a nightly occurrence and there’s not a Guard in sight.. Open drug dealings and drug taking can be seen all over the city centre..

Dublin in a Cultural Jewel of Europe….not many cities have produced the amount Dublin has…U2 Bram Stoker Yeats Shaw Lynott Geldoff O’Hara and on and on the list goes….it took me a while but I love the city…not perfect but us Irish are far from perfect…

About the controversy in Limerick City of Culture 2014…why feel the need to mention over and over again it when it was completely over amplified across the entire media infrastructure at the time…it was the 1st significant investment in culture in a City whose reputation had been destroyed by media…and it was the first city to expose political interference in Culture and how it is funded!!!

I have been to a lot of European cities and I can tell you , you seldom seen junkies injecting openly on the streets ,mothers and fathers going around with kids in prams strung out , dirt and dog pooh and chewing gum littering the streets ,muggings, pickpockets, shoplifting , loads of stabbings and the frequent murder and theres much more I can add ,but that’s what Dublin is and that’s what I call a dump

Like every city it has it’s problems but the pros far outway the cons……. The view across Dublin bay from Howth head, the Phoenix Park, shielded by beautiful mountains, great night life, welcoming people, culturally diverse, Croke Park, Guinness Brewery, great museums and gallerys, fantastic georgian areas, beautiful canals etc etc. Does it have drug and crime problems? Absolutely. It needs to be dealt with urgently by those elected to do so. Is everyone full of top o the mornin to you and cead mile failte? No the natives are by and large welcoming and witty but like any city we have our troubles and strifes. Overall though it’s a smashing city, with great characters, lots of variety and is a pretty hip place to live. I’m proud to tell people that I am Irish and I am from Dublin.

It would still be Dublin. Just without the harassment on the streets. It’s important to get rid of buskers and street performers too. It’s just begging via proxy. People should be forced to walk on the left on Grafton Street. Very annoying when you just need to get from A to B and Grafton Street is an obstacle course. Ban chewing gum all around the country too.

The audio was brilliant. Did the video need to begin with such dismal city scenes? Dublin is a city of golden light and great beauty as well as grey and dismal streets.
