Huge shark jumps three metres onto fishing boat

The shark died after fishermen sprayed it with fresh water and bashed it on the nose with a wooden bat.

A HUNGRY SHARK leapt three metres onto a fishing boat off the United Arab Emirates looking for prey – only to end up as catch of the day.

The predator, around six foot in length, took fishermen by surprise when it crashed onto on their deck, 35 nautical miles off the coast of Fujairah, local newspapers said.

“In seconds, it was in the middle of the boat after it hit one of the boat barriers,” said sailor Hamza al-Sharaa, 37, quoted in The National newspaper.

Sharaa said the shark jumped three metres out of the water to get onto the boat.

He said the shark died after fishermen sprayed it with fresh water and bashed it on the nose with a wooden bat.

In a video posted online by Ittihad daily, fishermen pointed to the needle-like teeth of the bloodied shark as they paraded their catch.

Fishermen in Fujairah, on the Gulf of Oman, had two similar incidents last year, but with smaller sharks.

Khalifa Massoud of the Fujairah fishermen’s association told The National that the catch is to be mummified and put on display at the local maritime museum.

    Some how I don’t think the shark jumped onto their boat looking for prey. . Dragged onto their boat with a hook attached is more like it

    This is similar to making a murderer, they were close enough to hit it on the head but not close enough to use their nets to hold it and get back in the sea, the neanderthal took hold and they battered a fish out of water, gulity!

    @Jason, Is a 6ft shark “massive”? No, it’s not.

    Throw a sheet over it’s head and simply pick it up and drop it over the side of the boat. It would only weigh about 40kg.

    Good point. A six foot shark would not prove to be much of a challenge especially if it was out of the water for even a short spell. This story is BS anyway.

    Jason, it can be done very easily! I’ve caught sharks of the Irish coast in the past, brought onto the boat, tagged, quick photo and released (they are never killed). Their scales are like sand paper, so they can be “lassoed” with a rope very easily. You need to be very careful handling then, as sharks have no bones (their skeleton is made of Cartilage), if you just hold them by the tail, they can swing their head back, and your hand might rub off their teeth! These guys in the video caught the shark on rod an line, the hook is still in its mouth, and can be seen of you pause the video at the 12 second mark. The shark in question is a Mako, we have a few of the Irish coast, but they are very rare in our waters.

    A 6 ft shark will weigh anything between 80lbs and 220 lbs.l depending on species. They could have still got it over the gunwale mind you

    Sharks – great whites at that can breach the water – they come up from behind to attack fur seals of the coast of south Africa and wow its some sight seeing one of those bad boys come out of the water with teeth like that ! So it’s quite possible it beached maybe after some bait and landed on the boat
